At 1400 hrs, waves of low-flying Israeli Mystere and Mirage-III fighter-bombers repeatedly attacked the American vessel with rockets, napalm, and cannon. The air attacks lasted 20 minutes, concentrating on the ship's electronic antennas and dishes. The 'Liberty' was left afire, listing sharply. Eight of her crew lay dead, a hundred seriously wounded, including the captain, Commander William McGonagle.

At 1424 hrs, three Israeli torpedo boats attacked, raking the burning 'Liberty' with 20mm and 40mm shells. At 1431hrs an Israeli torpedo hit the 'Liberty' midship, precisely where the signals intelligence systems were located. Twenty-five more Americans died.

Israeli gunboats circled the wounded 'Liberty,' firing at crewmen trying to fight the fires. At 1515, the crew were ordered to abandon ship. The Israeli warships closed and poured machine gun fire into the crowded life rafts (an international war crime), sinking two. As American sailors were being massacred in cold blood, a rescue mission by US Sixth Fleet carrier aircraft was mysteriously aborted on orders from the White House.

An hour after the attack, Israeli warships and planes returned. Commander McGonagle gave the order. 'prepare to repel borders.' But the Israelis, probably fearful of intervention by the US Sixth Fleet, departed. 'Liberty' was left shattered but still defiant, her flag flying.

The Israeli attacks killed 34 US seamen and wounded 171 out of a crew of 297, the worst loss of American naval personnel from hostile action since World War II.

How many Americans have even heard of this act of war against the US?....its been officially covered-up for decades. through the use of threats of imprisonment and worse.

Surviving 'Liberty' crew members would not be silenced. They kept demanding an open inquiry and tried to tell their story of deliberate attack to the media. Israel's government worked behind the scenes to thwart these efforts, going so far as having American pro-Israel groups accuse 'Liberty's' survivors of being 'anti-Semites' and 'Israel-haters.' Major TV networks cancelled interviews with the crew. (more evidence of control over the info we see on the TV) A book about the 'Liberty' by crewman James Ennes' was dropped from distribution.(control over the print media too) The Israel lobby branded him 'an Arab propagandist.'

The attack on 'Liberty' was fading into obscurity until intelligence expert James Bamford came out with Body of Secrets, his book about the National Security Agency. Bamford writes that unknown to Israel, a US Navy EC-121 intelligence aircraft was flying high overhead the 'Liberty,' and electronically recorded the attack. The US aircraft crew provides evidence that the Israeli pilots knew full well that they were attacking a US Navy ship flying the American flag. (earlier testimony from israeli airmen also corroborate that fact)

So lets just cut the bull shit here.... The crazies in the pentagon can and have officially gotten away with the murder of United States Citizens...WITH the full support and backing of white house.

I'd bet the farm there wont be a single peep in the main stream media about any of this today.

How is it murder when investigations were conducted, both sides agreed it was an accident and the Jews paid EVERYTHING that was asked of them. The US was warned by a COUNTRY THAT WAS UNDER ATTACK BY HOSTILE FORCES FROM A NUMBER OF SIDES THAT THEY (THE JEWS) WOULD PROTECT THEIR COUNTRY AT ANY AND ALL COSTS. The ship prior to the attack was given orders to move away from the area they were in unfortunately the orders were given too late. This kinda thing happens in the fog of war. You can puff your chest out all you want about how some deep dark conspiracy by our leaders and the Israelis has left us in the dark about what "really" happened but the FACTS are out there you chose to interrupt them differently then some of us.

    Re: On this Day...

to cite the official story, one has to completly disregard the testimony of American Citizens who were on that ship,

disregard the American citizens who were part of the sixth fleet and recieved those stand down orders,

disregard the the testomony of those israeli airmen who refused to fire on the ship because they saw the armican flag,

one has to disregard the testimony of those American airmen who electronically taped the whole thing.

and one has to throw up a big poo-poo to all the Americans who were murdered while in those life boats (an international war crime)

The sixth fleet cannot be Stood down by just anybody, now can it?

And One does NOT just mistake an American War Ship for an ancient egyption fishing vessle like israel says it did.

This was just another in a long line of Murders sanctioned by the pentagon.,,and covered-up by a controlled mass media....plain and simple.

Now if you still belive the official story...ive got a warren commision report you probly would believe too.

Dead In The Water - The Sinking of the USS Liberty

Dead in the Water - Israels Attack on the USS Liberty

The film combines dramatic reconstruction of the events, with new access to former officers in the US and Israeli armed forces and intelligence services who have decided to give their own version of events. Interviews include President Lyndon Johnson's Secretary of Defence Robert McNamara, former head of the Israeli navy Admiral Shlomo Errell and members of the USS Liberty crew.

    Re: On this Day...

that "Fog of war" excuse doesnt explain a 2 F-ing hour Attack on a US naval ship, or a stand down of the sixth fleet DURING the attack, no frigging way...and firing on people in life rafts was and still is an international war crime.

The point I was tring to make isnt who paid what "reparations" for some sort of Mistake..

My point is, the official story was bullshit then and given the latest information, its even more unlikely the pentagon is telling US the truth. (THAT should not surprise anyone)

this was a planned murder of US citizens, with the full support of the pentagon and the white house with the sole purpose of drawing the US into a foreign war.
(look, what those evil egyptions did!...they would murder our guys!...lets get em!)

I happen to think its UnAmerican, unconstitutional and just plain wrong to murder Americans.

This kind of behavior is the mode of operation for those F-ing bastards in the pentagon and thier "sneaky, ruthless, able to attack you and blame others for it" (That happens to be the official US analysis of the israeli mossad) counterparts in the mossad.

And it all be F-ing common knowledge to everyone if it werent for the controlled media who enable these bastards.

    THAT was my point.

5 years ago today my Boy was born. Happy Birthday to our Chocolate Lab.

10 years ago today I started working at Mitsubishi. Could possibly be one of the best and worst moves ever. Best because that is where I met Wifey, and some really great friends. Worst because of everything else. But I am happy that I at least have a job.

On this day, Today pictures were released of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. We all know what happened and I don't care what side of the isle you stand on you have got to admire this woman's spirit. This chick got shot in the head and five months later is up and ready to be released from the hospital. I wish her a speedy recovery, we need more Americans like her.

Don't really hate it, just hate the fact that we bust our ass for below zero appreciation. Can't really say I like my manager all that much, let alone one of my supervisors and the lead. The one supervisor can be an ass a majority of the time, but the times that he isn't he really is a great guy. Other then that, there is maybe 3 people that I really like, one is a great friend of mine, and would do anything for. So out of about 16 people total that we have there, I can tolerate 3 of them. The place is not bad, just the people more or less.

Believe me if I could make a change and get what I am getting now, with the benefits to boot. I would make that move. The car thing as great as it is, I can learn to live without.

The TD Softball game went down. It was a tie. (Can I say 1st annual, since last year was more of a preparation for a Hot Dog eating Contest? lol)

1821 – The United States takes possession of its newly bought territory of Florida from Spain.

1890 – Wyoming is admitted as the 44th U.S. state.

1913 – Death Valley, California hits 134 °F (~56.7 °C), the highest temperature recorded in the United States.
Be thankful it was not like this on the field today!

On this day in 1987, the world's population passed the five billion mark for the first time ever. Twenty-five years later we've added almost another billion to that number. That's a pretty steep rate of increase considering how the past 200,000 years before that played out.

8/02/1979 - Thurman Munson dies in crash

by ZombieMonta on Aug 2, 2010 2:16 AM EDT in In-Depth

(The wreckage of the crash that cost Thurman Munson his life)

August 2, 1979 is the date of one baseball's worst tragedies -- it's the day beloved Yankee catcher Thurman Munson died in a plane crash outside Canton, Ohio.
"I get chills all the time," Goose Gossage said in 2007. "I think about it a lot. It was, to this day, the toughest thing I've ever gone through as a player." "He was absolutely my favorite teammate. And I had some great, great, great teammates. But he was the best."
In 11 seasons, Munson was an All-Star seven times, a Gold Glove winner three teams, a champion twice, an MVP once, and the father of three kids. He was the first Yankee to be named captain since Lou Gehrig and was the visible face of the "Bronx Zoo." "He always knew exactly when to say something and when to shut up," Ron Guidry said. "And that's why everybody admired him."
On August 2nd, Munson was demonstrating his Cessna Citation to flight instructor David Hall and friend Jerry Anderson. Munson loved to fly and welcomed the ability to see his family more often. The jet cost him $1.4 million. He had only 18 months of aerial experience and was already on his fourth different plane. "People who know anything about flying and aviation knew this was nuts," his wife Diana said.

Munson attempted several touch-and-go takeoffs while he was in the air. After the third landing, Munson invited Hall to take control of the aircraft while Munson handled the throttles. Hall had never flown a Citation before and landed in the middle of the runway. The plane was assuming its fourth takeoff when air-traffic control advised Munson to change directions.
Thurman complied and veered the plane thirty degrees to the right. But he couldn't adjust to the new altitude and couldn't get the Citation high enough. Munson never put the landing flaps down, which would have given the Cessna additional lift. The plane began to descend well short of the runway. The three men braced for the worst.
"N15NY" collided with treetops and skidded along a barren pasture, losing its wings and nose head in the process. It charred the ground as it rocketed forward, colliding with a gigantic stump, flipping around, and finally stopping on a service road 200 yards shy of Akron-Canton Airport. "Thurman flew that airplane to the last nanosecond,"Anderson said. "He kept it under control and brought us down. He never panicked. He saved our lives."
The plane caught fire as soon as it landed. Munson was conscious but had suffered serious spinal damage and couldn't move. Anderson and Hall tried to pull the Yankee to safety but the main door was jammed. Munson's legs were trapped inside the crushed fuselage and wouldn't budge. By the time the two men burst through the emergency exit, the smoke had consumed the entire plane. Hall and Anderson jumped out of the plane knowing that Thurman wouldn't be coming with them.

Munson was pronounced dead on site when rescue vehicles arrived at the scene. Though Munson sustained considerable skin burns and vertebrae damage, it was the smoke from the fire that killed him. He was 32. The NTSB concluded that human oversight, not mechanical error, brought the plane down.
The news of Munson's death stunned his Yankee teammates who were enjoying a rare day off. The team played the following night at Diana Munson's insistence and lost 1-0 to the Orioles. The Yankee Stadium crowd of over 51,000 gave the late catcher a ten-minute standing ovation that left both the fans and players in tears. Owner George Steinbrenner announced that the Yankees were retiring Munson's #15 jersey.
The grieving Yankees attended Munson's funeral three days later. New York played the Orioles again that night and won 5-4 in front of a nationally televised audience. Outfielder Bobby Murcer drove in all five runs, including the game-winner. "I never did use that bat again. I gave it to Diana," Murcer recounted.
The brush that the Cessna Citation first crashed in has since grown over, the trees it clipped have been removed, and the stump it slammed into is long gone. There are two spots in New Yankee Stadium where Munson's death is still visible: the plaque erected of him in Monument Park, and his empty locker which to still bears his name to this day.

    ------------------------------
I know I'm the only Yankee fan on TD, but I remember this every single year. My dad had me wearing my Yankees hat backward from Day 1, because of this particular Yanks catcher. Thurman Munson is my all-time favorite player and I can remember watching this on the news at 4 years old, wearing my Yankees hat backwards and crying with my daddy.

    On a slight lighter side....

1776 – The signing of the United States Declaration of Independence took place.

1790 – The first US Census is conducted.

1870 – Tower Subway, the world's first underground tube railway, opens in London. (thought this one was kind of cool)

1943 – World War II: the Motor Torpedo Boat PT-109 is rammed by the Japanese destroyer Amagiri and sinks. Lt. John F. Kennedy, future U.S. President, saves all but two of his crew.
