Post Alcohol banned in MLB clubhouses

"The Tampa Bay Devil Rays are in the process of reviewing their policy, and the New York Yankees have joined the Oakland Athletics in banning alcohol in both their home and visiting clubhouses.
The Yankees had previously banned alcohol in their home clubhouse, but then last Friday, the team altered its policy for the visiting clubhouse at Yankee Stadium, and the beer that was on the visitors' side was wheeled out.
In the aftermath of the death of St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Josh Hancock -- who was deemed by police to have been drunk at the time of his fatal automobile accident -- more than a dozen teams have either banned alcohol from their home clubhouse or indicated they are considering a change."

The ban is only in the players clubhouses (dressing room area), it doesnt affect the fans.

Well, this seems fair. I don't get to drink at work either, and no one is paying me millions to be athletic.

When does personal responsibility play a role? These guys are adults they should be treated that way. Wasn't this pitcher coming home from a bar? If this ban was instituted before he died it wouldn't have made a difference.

So when these guys win a championship game they're not allowed to go back into to clubhouse and celebrate with a few drinks?

Everyone knows personal responsibility doesnt exist anymore. I dont see why they need to drink at work in the first place though?

My bet is, they will have a place pre-rented for the celebration to take place after... of course, bending the rules will be done too!

I'm with you guys, I can't even go to lunch and have a drink since I have to return to lunch. Why should they? Of course, I agree it would not have saved that players life so I really don't know why they are doing it.

In the case of Josh Hancock, I believe he was not only drunk but high too when he slammed into a truck. So its not just the hoooch.

They're not drinking while they are playing. They drink after. It's equivalent to go to happy hour after work... well sort of.. lol except happy hour comes to them.

Too bad no one in the Red Sox organization read this article last year

Seriously though I have no problem with clubs doing this. They are, after all, a place of business and I don't know about you, but my workplace doesn't allow drinking on the premises.
