    well the other option is just to remove the sig and tell you you are SOL. I would remake the sig with the same picture a person has, just sized differently to fit the rules.

    Really? Don't most browsers at most do a HEAD on a graphic included multiple times in a page. Depending on pragma no-cache they shouldn't even do that. Unless I am totally wrong (a possibility, I rarely delve into this stuff ... cracking a manual now ...).
    This hadn't occurred to me as I use threaded mode.

    Yes, this feature cuts down on load time/total page load size
