    Question Test Running the toolbar

anyone seen the toolbar at the footer today? i added it this morning. it is actually a powerful little guy, it can do lots of things. i can not fully test it here at work cause most of its featured are blocked by our filters. but i will check it out tonight.

it has a share button, this allows you to share anything on td on most all social networks. if the bar works out this will allow me to remove all the other share options we have now in leiu of just this one.

it has a recent post button, i still prefer our regular recent post button but its not bad.

it has a whos online map, kinda neat

it also has some rss stuff and supposedly has a chat feature but i cant check that out here.

im just testing it right now, i can add or remove buttons and features when i take a look at it tonight. what do you guys think of it? GL mentioned it seemed to him it slowed page loads, another thing i can't see here cause the net here is awful slow anyway but im not seeing a difference.

if i decide to keep it i can add an option in the usercp for everyone to turn it on or off.

    Re: Test Running the toolbar

I can type anything i want in there. i am pretty sure it goes by cookies so the first time there is a new message you get a popup telling you the message. then it just sites there at the bottom. if you click the person icon it shows you again.

its like a notification window for the site so i can put anything there, like announcing the next TD softball game or whatever.

I see no difference in the speed...
    it runs fine here....
    I like it....

The only thing I did notice was when I first signed on and it gave a pop up message about the tool bar it took a second or two........
    But other than that....
    looks good from here....

    Re: Test Running the toolbar

in coding terms it is coded in the footer. so it should be the very last thing to load. so it shouldn't hinder the page loads, it there is a lag it should be only the bar itself lagging a sec after the page is loaded. this is a very popular toolbar, lots of websites use it, so it has been thoroughly tested.

    So....
    in other words...
for the ones who are saying it is slow loading,

    It's a "P.I.C.N.I.C". problem

    Re: Test Running the toolbar

Well strange things happen sometimes, i will never rule anything out. I have added stuff in the footer before and sometimes it causes things to hang but it shoulnd't

this has been tested a lot though and runs on some really big sites. If it works out my aim is to be able to cut out alot of the other social stuff that eats up load times on the site and replace them with this. So i am looking to help speed the site up.

    Re: Test Running the toolbar

Well i linked a TD post to my FB page and it worked great. I think it is a grand idea.

Question : will it know it can't post a restricted forum?

    Re: Test Running the toolbar

it might not, but if you do, people will get a restricted message so no real worries. there are only a very few pages that are not open to public. mainly user profiles, member list, and the edge section....i think that is it.

I think the map feature is pretty cool. Interesting to see people visiting here from Brazil, Europe, and all across the country. Though I have to wonder why some of those non-locals are visiting.

I like the toolbar but my CP has been running slow anyway. I put an extra 1GB of memory in it yesterday and it's still slow. I'm about ready to throw this thing out the window and buy a new one but..................................sorry bout that.

yes, you have to activate it... he turned it off for everyone, and if you want it, you have to go into your CP and change it.
