    Move Over

The below national PSA urging motorists to "slow down and move over" premiered yesterday at the Delaware City (DE) Fire Company. It's a joint venture between the Delaware City Fire Company and the Cumberland Valley Volunteer Firemen's Association to educate the public about dangers associated with passing responders working on the roadways. The project was launched at the request of the Delaware City Fire Company following the Line of Duty Death of FF/EMT Michelle Smith, who was struck while operating at a crash in December of 2008. The CVVFA produced the PSA with the USFA and with funding from DOJ.

I'm with you Max, I thought his went into effect awhile ago. I think it's great. It really pisses me off when people don't get over for emergency crews. Moving over just makes it safer for everyone.
You can only make a mistake once. After that it's a choice.

    Exclamation Re: Move Over

It has been on the books for a while in Delaware, the new media campaign goes with tougher penalties that just went into effect.

I always treat emergency responders and emergency personell as if they were going to my home or treating my family.

At least something good is coming out of such a tragedy. I always slow down and assess the situation before attempting to pass.

This is something we need to teach when our teens are learning to drive and by example. Some people never learned to do it. The example that sticks out in my mind is watching people pull all the way over not just for emergency vehicles but funeral processions too when were in Tennessee. It's respect for the dead and grieving, the ill or emergency personnel and doing the very thing you would want done for you or your loved ones.
