REHOBOTH BEACH — Annie Plowman just started her third summer working at Sierra Moon Surf & Skate Shop and she's already witnessed a parking space-related altercation.
"I saw an older man threaten a young boy who was saving the spot for his family," she said. "The man kept inching his car closer to the boy to force him out of the spot."
Such incidents are not uncommon during the summer months as a lack of parking spaces, high temperatures and congested traffic cause tempers to flare.
"People get so defensive over parking spots," Plowman said.
Police Chief Keith Banks said while this sort of behavior is not something he expects from visitors and residents, it nonetheless happens.
"We have run into confrontations where people start arguing and threatening each other," he said. "But it does not (escalate to that point) regularly."
Banks said aggressive parkers could be ticketed as their actions are prohibited by the city's code.
Standing in a parking spot, holding up traffic while waiting for a spot and backing up on a one-way street -- such as Rehoboth Avenue -- to pull into a spot, are all illegal, he said. read more

I've seen this there and I have seen it at Bethany too. People that let their kids or other members in the car get out and hold a spot until they can circle back around to take it.
I always think that's a prick move but I understand why they do it at these places. The lack of parking stinks.
