Cut milage allowance for State lawmakers?

DOVER, Del.- One Delaware lawmaker is calling for an end to mileage reimbursements for elected officials.
Republican Senator Colin Bonini of Dover said mileage stipends for Senators should be suspended because of the state's fiscal problems.
Senator Bonini said lawmakers are reimbursed for the gas they use just to get to work in Dover. Senators are also reimbursed for other travel expenses related to Senate business.
The Senator has sent a letter to the President Pro Tem of the Senate requesting the change.
Bonini said most people in the private sector are not reimbursed for the drive to work, and politicians should not be given stipends either.
Many people said they agree with the senator.
When asked whether lawmakers should be paid to drive to work, Mary Rasmussen said, "No I don't think so, everyone else has to pay for their gas to go back and forth to their jobs."

every politician should have to pay and pump their own gas, even the president. At least that way when they say "I feel your pain" you won't want to punch the TV.

Perhaps we should add something to this piece of legislation since they do it to us all the time....

I propose we add milk to the list

anyone else got anything you wanna add to the list so our elected officials might see what we deal with everyday?

It's fluff news because Bonini is running for State Treasurer. It's a headline, free press. He's been there in Dover as a State Senator for 15 years and just now comes up with this? Awesome.

How about the $18million+ that the Legislators get to spend in their Districts each year, the re-election money, to pave your road, to fix your ramp, et al, work on that one.

Work on the additional legislative salary for Special Sessions, the additional legislative salary for Committee and Leadership assignments, work on those.

If I'm not mistaking, I believe it was Bonini that went on the rampage several years ago when Jack Markell ran for State Treasurer and continued the rant after Jack's election to the office about how unnecessary the office had become. The General Assembly has effectively stripped the Treasurer of virtually all policy-setting authority, reducing the office to a caretaker function to be run according to the dictates of the BIG HEAD committee.

So, what's happened? Have I missed something? The way the General Assembly handles the finances in this State, I agree that the Treasurer's Office could be eliminated and what's left could be run by any competent accounting technician with reasonable supervisory skills.

Of course, the State Treasurer's Office is a full-time position that pays a lot more than and is a great way to pad one's retirement.... HEYYYYY, wait a minute here... You don't think... Nah!
