    Re: Home Repairs

ive done a few jobs for people..... build small landing for thier steps into the house and a total roof replace for a garage and normally on larger jobs i charge twice cost of materials. the roof job i did pretty well. had my little brother and a frend help me. day and half work paid the friend $400, brother ( used him as a gopher/gunt labor) he made $250 and i still pocketed about $600 for myself.

something small like wax ring i charge milage + $$25 hour on average

Sorry, Max been busy and get on here about once a week.

Pricing out a toilet wax ring. Well, let's see a ring is anywhere from $2.00 to $7.00, about 15 minutes to install, so at my rate, I would charge $47.00. The part and my time of one hour min. If it is a customer I have done work for in the past I cut them a break.

    But, it is a business.

I work by and for myself. If I need a hand, not with a wax ring, but I have a 16 year old son. He learns and earns or rather works off his debt. Got to get him used to reality. Not like on TV.

Last Sunday went to a customer's home, they said "We have a major problem." It was the water filter in their water line. They couldn't get old filter out. It took me 5 minutes, how can I charge for this? They had their check book out, I said. Have a good day, no payment needed.

In business, you have to give a little to get a little. We are all just trying to get along.
