NEW YORK (AP) - HBO says "Law and Order" veteran Chris Meloni will be sinking his teeth into a role on vampire drama "True Blood."
The network confirmed Wednesday that Meloni will be joining the popular series as an ancient, powerful vampire who controls the fate of the show's major characters.
The series' fifth season is expected to air next summer. Its stars include Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer.
Meloni recently ended a 12-year run on NBC's "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," where he played Detective Elliot Stabler.
Before that, the 50-year-old actor was a regular as a bisexual inmate on HBO's gritty prison drama, "Oz."

ummm....what's the name of the role he will play? I think it would be kinda cool if they put the guy that turns into a tiger on the show (I forget his name)

HBO has departed from the books so much that I doubt next season will be familiar to any of us who are fans of the books.

Charlaine Harris should be furious with HBO and embarrassed that she sold her story off like this.

I couldn't even watch last season... after the first few episodes, I was so pissed that I gave up on it.

I completely agree Hockey....I had a very hard time with this last season. I like the show but not because it follows the books, I have to put the books out of my mind when I'm watching.

Quinn....but I don't see him as Quinn but then again he isn't following the books so who knows what his interpretation of Quinn would be.

Okay - did anyone watch last night?

I feel like I missed something. Were there any additional clues to who the vampire that killed Sookie's parents is/was? Warlow, I think his name was? I know she went to Sheriff Dearborn for information and he didn't seem to know exactly who it was, but was there anything additional?

Nothing that I noticed. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the new sheriff in town, though.

I was thinking that as well, because of the timing of his appearance and because there were some similarities in their look. When I looked up the new sheriff, it said that his name is Elijah - so maybe there is some weird fairy back story there and he goes by two names.

This show just gets wackier by the week.

I haven't watched it this season, we downsized our cable and got rid of the premium movie channels therefore, no True Blood, no Dexter, etc. I am hoping that Netflix will have the seasons on there when they are released, if not oh well.

I haven't watched any of this season...it looks lame. While we're talking about lameness. QVC now offers a True Blood cologne lol...

I haven't watched TB this season either. The books go into some detail about Sookies parents getting caught in a flash flood and drowning. It later explained trough Claude and Claudine that the drowning was intentional but I forget who drowned them.

Not sure if this helps.... HBO isn't following the books at all.

TattdMom.... HBO won't be on Netflix anytime soon. HBO has their own service: HBOGO.

I actually pre ordered it through Netflix last night, and HBOGO is only for subscribers isn't it?

Oh sorry.... I didn't know you could pre-order anything from Netflix, especially HBO shows. HBOgo is for subscribers only.

Is this season of TB better than last seasons? Maybe I'll catch up when I get back in town if it's worthwhile.

I don't know. I'm having a hard time deciding where it ranks compared to others. It's not my favorite season, or even close to it. But I might just like it better than last season. Maybe not. I don't know. Ugggggghhhh. So far there has been no interaction between Sookie and Eric & Bill. I hope that's not a spoiler, but this season focuses on The Authority and the battle between mainstreaming and a fundamental view of the protectors of Lilith. Meanwhile Sookie is working on some fairy crap. I hate the fairy crap.

Honestly, it's still one of my favorite shows, but I would be happy never to see a Claude or Claudine or Claudette or Claudia or Claudarina again. I'm also kind of over all the sub-genres of sups that keep popping up. There are enough characters in this series already without needing more to be introduced each episode.

I was considering trying to get into it again....after your post Jessica....think I'll stick to waiting for Bill Maher to come back from haitus (sp?) and watching reruns of Big Bang Theory (which btw, is the best show on tv)

Yeah you can and I also orderd this coming season of Dexter. Price wise it's just cheaper to have Netflix instead of the Premium channels. And if by chance I don't get to see these seasons, it's not the end of the world...I guess..LOL

My daughter still has Showtime so I can see Dexter if I go over there. TB I can live without, especially since they have taken way too many licenses with the show and are barely following the books. And to be honest Anna P. grates on my nerves something awful....lol
