Oh, and if you're up for the drive, Tubby's in Ocean City (a few blocks south of Seacrets) makes an awesome cheesesteak with a great Philly style roll.
Hell, hitting that place up after a night out at Seacrets was just as much a draw for me when I was living in Pot Nets as going out to the club was.
Okay... Explain this then.... What does Grotto's Pizza NOT do then??? Their pizza tastes so much better at the beach, than it does up here.....
Atmosphere, maybe... but really I don't think so....
I make a greasy, cheese drippy, peppery cheese state that is soooooo good that after one bite you mother would get in the car, drive over the river and through the woods, ring the doorbell and smack her mother when she answered the door!
It is soooooo good and soooooo fattening that I dare not make it more than 2 times a year![]()

There used to be a sub shop on North Market st. and the corner of Marsh road.It was named Buster's.They had cheese steaks that bleed grease when you bit into them, they were that good. You had to use two hands to hold it up while you ate it.It was so full of meat. And if you asked for fried onions look out, They just packed it on. Add a little red blood and you were in heaven. They only cost $4.95 for a 10 inch small one. I've been looking around ever since to find one like that but so far none have come close. Maybe Maryland Ave.Sub.

They pack on the steak, and it's greasy... just greasy enough... too greasy, and I get the same thing that kid gets with a Grottos pie and a Dr Pepper....
And they're voted BEST cheese steak on TalkDelaware.com too
Mike's is open, but only on weekdays. And they close for a week or so for summer vacations. Mike and his crew still make a great sandwich.
When Mike left Claymont, so did I! The new owners at Claymont Steaks should be ashamed of their product these days; it is VERY uneven. I've been there 3 days, only one sandwich was decent. I haven't been back since.
I don't eat cheesesteaks but this girl I work with is a TOTAL foody and she says that Deerhead is the best.
America is an idea, but it's an idea that brings with it some baggage, like power brings responsibility. It's an idea that brings with it equality, but equality even though it's the highest calling, is the hardest to reach. The idea that anything is possible, that's one of the reasons why I'm a fan of America. - Bono, Commencement University of Pennsylvania May 17, 2004
eh deerhead is ok, this thread got me wanting to go to malins for lunch today...hmmmm
Don't both the "famous" Philly cheesesteak places use crappy liqui-cheese, like cheez-Whiz? Ick. That's just disgusting.
I like my cheesesteaks with American cheese. and a little mayo. And a really fresh roll!
I like the cheesesteaks from:
Claymont Steak Shop (Claymont loc, never been to the new one)
KC's Pizza (Old Balt Pike, Newark). I live near there, and I like their food. Their crispy chicken salad is awesome, too.
Ciao's Pizza (Univ Plaza)
And, although it's not in DE, but just over the border into PA on Kennett Pike: Mendenhall Cafe and Deli. They're cheesesteaks are very yummy, as are their Mozzarella fries. I work 5 minutes from there. Good stuff.

the cheeze whiz is part of the experience and it is actually pretty good...
i had a buffalo chicken cheese steak at ciaos in UP today, it was BANGIN! real good, i was impressed. i have narrowed down the reason i dont like their regular cheese steaks, their ketchup sucks, has a nasty taste. i never ate ketchup there before today, we ordered fries, it was like a light went on in my head....
We ordered subs and cheese steaks from Mike's Famous tonight. Reading this thread gave me the ideathanks guys! It was YUMMY!!!!

You can only make a mistake once. After that it's a choice.
There is a little place called Franks it is red lion area off of rt71 close to 13 they are cheap, huge steaks. The large subs there can easily feed 2 people and its under $10. They are very cheesy and plenty of meat.
Another plus for Malin's Market in Newark - besides great cheesesteaks (I used to stop there for food at least one night a week when I was teaching at Delaware), they also sell what is probably the best homemade potato salad in the area. The potatoes aren't overcooked like most.![]()
Their deserts are amazing as well.
