My point, as it were, is that I'm just getting tired of this Guilt By Association mantra that's going around. My Catholics vs. Muslims theme was to illustrate that you simply cannot blame a multitude of people for the actions of a very small minority of their group. The relevance in my Catholic upbringing was to note that I obviously don't have any hatred or misunderstanding of Catholics, and that I was making a point, not smearing a religion. You have 2 religions in the news lately. One for child abuse, and one for terrorist acts. If you want to blame Islam for the problems we face in this country in regards to safety, then it's hypocritical not to blame Catholicism for child abuse. And I say both are ridiculous.
I appreciate the vigilance of those who care about our country, and don't want to see Political Correctness blind us to possible dangers. I do. Sincerely. But, barring the indication of a crime in conspiracy...like, I dunno...a bunch of Middle Easterners taking flight classes but only wanting to learn how to navigate and not how to take off or land...or purchases of potential explosives or fertilizer or what have you...or anything that our intelligence sources discover is "untoward" in regards to certain individuals...I assume that for the most part, people living here want the same thing I want. To find some happiness and live in peace.
Of course there's crackpots. And hate filled individuals. I just don't think they're all Muslim. And I'm not willing to go down the road of singling out a particular religion for persecution. Not in my country, I'm not.
There is no such thing as perfect safety. We have rights like no other nation in the world. That comes with a price. The price is, people are innocent until proven guilty in a fair trial. Until then, we're all the same. We have many agencies designed to protect us from criminals and would-be evil doers. I'll let them do their jobs. And hope like hell they keep getting better at it. But what I won't do is blame an entire creed for the acts of some. I don't like where that road leads. Not even a little bit.
+1 on this entire post. Especially the last few lines.
