    Need a good auto mechanic!

Do you guys have a trusted auto mechanic that you turn to when you need scheduled maintenance, tires, or when the dreaded engine light goes on? Frankly, I feel like I’m getting ripped off at the dealership and I’m looking for a new place to service my car. Not opposed to dealerships or chains as long as the price is right and the service is good.

I need an oil change, but my car’s maintenance required light also came on last week, and I’m pretty sure my brakes are squeaky and I need to replace at least 2, if not 3 tires. It’s going to be a big service – no idea what it will/should cost.

I don’t mind paying for good service, but I don’t want to be nickel and dimed, and I don’t want to pay for anything I don’t need. If I only need 1 new tire, I don’t want someone talking me into getting 3.

I live in the Newark area and would really LOVE to drop my car off early Saturday morning – 8 or 8:30ish and pick it up whenever it’s done. I have a Honda Accord, if that makes any difference.

    Any suggestions!

For tires and brakes i suggest tire sales and service in newport in the industrial park right before the movies there.

    tire sales and service
    600 1st State Boulevard, Wilmington - (302) 994-2900

for a oil change, i like jiffy lube if you want to have someone do it. they are fast, cheap, and they vacuum your car and wash your windows.

just have to add here, buy Jerm some tools for christmas and make him get his hands dirty, it will save you a boatload.

    Jess-

    Ray's Certified Auto Repair
    2042 Telegraph Road, Wilmington, DE‎ - (302) 892-3375‎

He's by the Kirkwood Highway entrance to Delaware Park, down near the ugly Kirkwood Library.

I don't know if Ray and his son keep weekend hours.

You will never get ripped off there.

ETA: If you need same day service, however, I don't think Ray can do that because he's not going to have your Honda parts stocked and ready.

why cause they exploded a car engine?

i see reports about juiffy lubes and what not being horrible places to take cars on the news and stuff, believe you me i am crazy when it comes to car maintenance and i have taken a car there a few times. you can watch them thru the window (at least the one on kirkwook you can) and they have never done me wrong.

i do almost everything on the cars myself in my driveway, i actually have to remove and drain the brake booster on my car today, gonna be a huge PITA, but ill git-r-dun....for free.99 instead of the $300 a shop would charge. im probably selling my car when that is done...so anyway looking for a sweet ride keep your eyes peeled :P

I just used the shop KL recommended for a big repair job and they were great.

I would definitely second the recommendation.

    (and thanks again, KL!)

I do most of my repairs myself, but for the big stuff I go to Carman Ford, fast and professional :-)

My hubby does all the maintenance stuff but for bigger problems he takes it to the guy Kid recommended. Reliable and decent prices.

We took our Crown Victory to Carmen at the 13/40 split. for an oil change and they put the wrong oil in our car and they had to replace the whole engine. When we came back from a trip down south the car was making a funny noise. they had just changed the oil and filter before we had left to go on or trip. The service rep told us that we should have had them change the oil before we had gone so I showed him the receipt. That was before they replaced the engine. So much for having a dealership do it.

Try 7th streeet Automotive in Old New Castle. It's on the side of the old Gambacorta dealership. He does all my work and he is very reasonable but he doesn't work the weekends. His name is Duane Noel and his phone number is 302-584-5905 .Last week my check engine light came on and he put it on the scanner and it told him something and he fixed the problem and it was free. Today I had my oil changed in my custom show car. I supplied the synthetic oil and filter and he did the work for $20.00 That included checking and adding fluids if needed. Mark at Carmen wants $80.00 and they supply the oil. I paid $25.00 for the oil and filter. He's very professional and he doesn't tell you that you need something unless it needs to be fixed.

I have been going to Shadetree close to Prices Corner for years. I have always felt comfortable with them. They are super nice.

I have a Honda Accord and sometime the engine light turn on...my case both cause by gas cap may not properly closed after refilled the tank. Try reopen the cap and close it back. The light usually will go away after a day. If it still on, then I suggest 2 locations and both near Kirkwood around Marshall Store area.
    1) Kirkwood Auto Repair - They may have shuttle service...
    2) Henry's Auto Garage - opposite Artisan bank, right behind Dunkin Donut. I just have my camry fixed there. Very honest guy. Tell him he is highly recommended...his name is Gary. But I doubt they open Sat.

Thanks for the suggestion, everyone! I made an appointment at the place Kid suggested - it's close to my house and they were great when I called.
