UNDATED -- Today is the 11th Day of the 11th Month, originally called Armistice Day to remember the end of World War 1, it has since become Veterans Day to remember all the soldiers, sailors and airmen who have fought in the nation’s wars.
Ceremonies will be held at 11 this morning at the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, In Comstock, Portage and Vicksburg.
A memorial service will be held at Rose Park at the Veteran’s Memorial at 1:45 this afternoon, starting with a reading of the names of those county residents who have died on active duty.
When a veteran comes home from war, a plate of mom's home cooking may be one of the first things he or she wants... but it may not be the most important thing they need.
United States Marine CORPS Sgt. Kevin Swallow says counseling services are needed for many veterans when they come home.
Swallow says a lot of veterans experience loneliness when they leave the service, and finding a veterans group can help with that. He says it's important for veterans to talk with people who understand their experiences.
Swallow says there are a lot of services available through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, where he works. To find out more about the department, go online to v-a dot gov.
Marshall Rep. Jace Bolger has chosen Veterans Day to propose legislation that would waive a $5 fee charged to Veterans who want to denote their service on their license plates. The Republican freshman says the idea was suggested to him by a veteran at a town hall meeting.
The Vet would still be responsible to pay all the regular fees.
Thamk you for all who have served
