First money making opportunities as a kid were cutting grass in summer and shoveling snow in the winter, walking the neighborhoods knocking on doors like a salesman, and of course you had the ones you knew would take the service as repeat customers - these folks were good for other 'odd jobs' too if they caught you when they needed something.
Also had a few paper routes, the Inquirer was delivered before school and the Daily News was waiting when you got home, that's the first 'formal' job, with a boss, working for the man, and if they're reading this - shove that Sunday Inquirer up your ass, thanks.
Ignorance is our most expensive commodity.
My first real job was bussing tables at the Eagleville Hotel in Monco PA while I was still in school. It was all you can eat clam night and the fireman's fair was across the street and they were uber busy all night. I was supposed to get off at 11PM and got off at 1:30 AM (which I'm not sure was really legal) and my folks told me I didn't have to nor did they really want me to go back.
After High School I worked on a trash truck for about 6 months then got a job as a shipping and receiving clerk in the power transmission business in which I worked in some capacity including inside sales between 78' and 95' with about a three year period mixed in when I drove tractor trailer and again for about 9 months after I got downsized in 95'. I've been working in the water and wastewater field ever since.
