    Nintendo DS grows Up

A bigger DS, hmmm not really that bad of an idea, price may be a little to costly, but with the larger screen and size. It just may get into the hands of a grown man, and may just steal some more thunder from PSP. Good luck Nintendo!!! Just something else to dominate with, I guess! I know me and Zapata can definitely agree with that...lol.

Steal some thunder from the PSP? Are we in the same country here? DS right now is already on total domination, and the PSP Go landed with a barely heard thud. Many stores don't even want to carry it. I guess this may just about bury it now.

There was just a hint of sarcasm in there. The original post actually said "just may steal some thunder from the industry leading PSP." I had deleted to make it look a little more believable...lol Just like the comment of getting into the hands of a grown man. Wifey had one, I used it for about 5 minutes and just gave up on it. PSP was definitely more my style, especially with the game selection. DS is a chick handheld, nothing like the Gameboy, in my opinion.

yea i definitely agree the psp needs the gps and camera that we were promised first, then more apps like the iphone has if it wants to compete with the ds. the ds has more games that anyone can play and is more for casual gamers. the psp has the platform games but if it wants to steal the ds's market needs more kids games. oh well i still enjoy my psp

I only got one because Wifey was doing some traveling for work and for that they gave her a bonus in the form of points to use on a website that had all kinds of things on there. So I figured why not it's free. Played it for the first month and everything was great. Figured I would play it when I traveled as well. But, the problem really came when I realized we stopped going on trips. So I was going to pick up a new game, and figured I was going to get extra trade-in value for it as long as I put it towards my purchase. So I did it, and had plenty to spare. It was only collecting dust, so it was no biggie to me. We just took a trip back to Pittsburgh and I did not even think about it. Just spent time with my Wife and her Grandpa, and the dogs got tons of play time at the ball fields across the street. So everyone won all around.

What is the difference between the DS and the DSi?? My two younger kids love their DS's and they are great for the car. Hubby has a PSP but hardly uses it. I like the looks of the bigger DS, it drives me crazy when my son wants me to watch him play a game and I can barely see the damn screen! lol And as long as it will play all the DS games they already have it may be a good Christmas present for next year since the link above said it won't be available in the US until early 2010. I just wasn't sure from a gaming stand point if the DSi is any better than the DS. I have no clue what the difference is and if I ask my kids they will think they are getting them for Christmas this year and that isn't going to happen. Just wondering if any of you guys could clue me in on the differences.

There are currently 3 versions of the DS on the market now. The plain old DS (or DS Phat as it's lovingly called) is the oldest and is no longer sold at retail new anymore (though you can buy one used at Gamestop and other 2nd hand shops).

The DS Lite is the 2nd version and is still common at retail. It improves on the Phat by making it a heck of a lot smaller and lighter, with a few other minor differences.

The DSi is the third version and has several differences from the DS Lite. It's more expensive ($170 versus $130). It's lighter, thinner, has bigger screens, longer battery life, and comes with a web browser (with which you can download games from Nintendo). One small negative is it can't play GBA games (which the DS Lite can), but it does have an SD slot. It also has a camera built in.

    Check here for some comparisons:

Thanks for the explanation Josef. As I've said before I am not a gamer! lol But I do get a kick our of watching hubby and the kids play theirs. The graphics always blow me away. And the games hubby plays have a plot and stuff. Considering I grew up with Atari today's computers are just amazing and my kids look at me like I'm nuts when I say stuff like t hat. But this is what they are growing up with and technology changes so fast too. That is going to be their world as they grow up, the constant adjusting and learning new technology as it changes.

Think about how ancient the Atari 2600 looks nowadays, when 25 years ago it was the cutting edge! In 25 years your kids will look back to the stuff today in the same way! It blows my mind to think of how everything will look and I can't even fathom to think how they will improve upon what they have out now. But I'll enjoy the ride

All I can say is.. My DSi met its demise by falling in the toilet(thank god I had just flushed) and my PSP continues to chug along despite having lots of liquor poured on it over various parties. I love my little beast of a PSP, I just can't seem to kill it.

    Re: Nintendo DS grows Up

Just letting everyone know this came out last week. Right now I'm seriously considering upgrading my DS Phat to this thing Of course, Nintendo also announced they are making a 3D portable gaming system on the eve the DSi XL came out. So should I wait (most likely 1 to 2 years) for this new 3D system, or go for this? Hmmm...
