    Grass Cutting - Not a Woman's Job!

I was out yesterday and noticed a woman cutting the grass and thought to myself "Where the hell is her husband and why is he not out there cutting the grass?"

Then I stopped and wondered if I am having one of those old fashion thoughts.

Is grass cutting a man's chore or is it alright to let a woman cut the grass?

I don't let my wife cut the grass at all. One, I don't think it is a woman's job, two, she has asthma and allergies and it is not worth the suffing she will put us through afterwards, three, it gives me exercise and piece and quiet from the family. I can put my iPod on and be in my own little world.

I always picture it as a man's job...that is just because I can't STAND the smell of fresh grass.
But then I think about the single mother...who will cut her grass? Should she hire someone to do it, or just do it herself? Something to ponder for ya GL....

Than that single woman needs to get herself a guy.

What guy is not going to cut grass for a piece of ass?

Re: Grass Cutting - Not a Woman's Job!

I, personally, love to cut the grass...and weed wack. I even did it when I was about 7 months prego with my son...but I did get a few weird looks from the garbage truck going by that day.
I would be doing it now if I wouldn't look odd.

I think my husband would PREFER me not to do it, but he really never complained when it was done by me (ok, I think he did bitch because my lines weren't straight...blah!!)...because it was at least done by the time he got home from work.

I still do the weeding and like to walk around with the blower...but I leave the grass and weed wacking up to him. I could see not doing it for allergies' sake, though.

I think it's a man's job. I see women in my neighborhood cutting grass often, idk if they are single or married to bums or what.

I enjoy taking care of my yard, i cut down 2 huge trees yesterday, trimmed, cut the grass, etc....it's fun...especially on a nice day.

I had the chainsaw out yesterday and everything, I'll post a pic later.

My husband and I split it pretty evenly. I've been doing it more lately than he has, since I have the summer off. My son is old enough now to mow, but we just let him do the back yard since it's flat. The front yard is trickier with slopes, tree roots, etc.

I really don't mind doing it.

Of course, we all know DEMOA just does it in hopes that that Verizon worker from last year will be watching her. She's like that. ROFL.

Re: Grass Cutting - Not a Woman's Job!

My sister use to cut the grass when we were growing up. (We took turns). When I grew-up and moved out, my mother use to call me to come cut the grass and would threaten to cut it herself if I did not come over right away.

One day last year, a young girl came to my door and asked if she could cut my lawn. In that instant a million thoughts went through my head. A little girl cutting grass? Why not? Never heard of such! Why Not? This is not right! Why not?

So I asked her how much, once I decided that I would give her a shot. She told me $60 and I told her "No-thanks".

In my day... I cut the same size lawn and I charged $2.50. It took me an hour and I used my own gas and mower and some folks didn't even want to pay $2.50! They tried to cheat me out of the 50 cent!

Yes you are having one of those old fashion thoughts. And yes I cut my grass (2.5 acres) along with my oldest daughter. She does the weed whacking and I run the riding mower and we share the push mower portion.

I prefer to do it just for the reasons you stated in your last paragraph. Out on the lawn mower no one can ask me where something is, or to make them something to eat......it's my own little world.

Hell my dd and I also do all of the maintenance on the machines...and my hubby's a mechanic. I don't let him touch it unless it's something really complicated.

I wouldn't mind mowing my mom's lawn for her, but it has to completely PERFECT! The lines not only have to be totally straight, but they have to be diagonal....yeah, no.

America is an idea, but it's an idea that brings with it some baggage, like power brings responsibility. It's an idea that brings with it equality, but equality even though it's the highest calling, is the hardest to reach. The idea that anything is possible, that's one of the reasons why I'm a fan of America. - Bono, Commencement University of Pennsylvania May 17, 2004

Re: Grass Cutting - Not a Woman's Job!

I think I mowed the lawn once when I was a teenager, although I might have only mowed half of it and quit. I have a brother 20 months younger and it was always his chore. Now my husband mows because he works afternoons and evenings, and it's just easier for him to get it done early in the morning when he's home. I've been begging him to show me how to work the weed whacker because I think he does a shoddy job with it, but he keeps conveniently "forgetting."

If we had a riding mower I'd do it all the time. As it stands now we don't, and I am lazy and hate the heat. In general though I don't think it's weird at all to see a woman out in her yard doing it herself, just as I don't think it's weird that my husband does the laundry or cleans the bathtub.

Re: Grass Cutting - Not a Woman's Job!

When I was home during the day, I would cut the grass but I draw the line at weed wacking - our POS weedwacker makes me nuts.

My oldest is 13 and it's his job now but he does a lousy job, looks like crop circles in the yard. I just paid a service $30 to do the front and back and all the trimming and it looks good.

We may keep the service so no has to hear me bitch.
