I grew up in the area and went to school at brookside elementry,Ogletown middle, Lived on meadow lane and used to walk to the mini mall everyday go to the soda shop, deli cant remeber the name of it. I remember they were going to build a building in back of the shopping center and never completed it and for years the girders just stood there. I remember Kiddie world and Brookside Bowl,Brookside pool before it was closed. I also remember there was a rumor that Brookside was built on An Indian grave sight, maybe this is where they got the idea for poltergiest, lol. i remember the peeping Tom dude who was a cop. Anybody know of a place people used to go swimming hang out called "little falls". by a train bridge or something barely remember being taken there as a kid. Ok everybody meet at Mr Pizzas, lol.

I thought they said Scottfield was built on an Indian burial site. My mom said that she found some sort of wooden cross when she was diggin in the garden.

America is an idea, but it's an idea that brings with it some baggage, like power brings responsibility. It's an idea that brings with it equality, but equality even though it's the highest calling, is the hardest to reach. the name of the deli is Country Maid and it's still there and they still make a mean sub! the name of the soda shop was Pollard's Pharmacy....
remember the Food Fair, then Pantry Pride, then it was PLUS ("Priced Low, U Save") then it was Warehouse Drug Mart.... then it was boarded up and stood that way for years and years....

Pollards!!! Wow! Now THAT'S a name/place I haven't thought of in years! They used to have (OMG, how effin' old am I???) .15, or some ridiculously low priced, ice cream bars. My brother and I used to walk over after church on Sunday's and get one.

I lived in Chestnut Hill Estates in late 50s. Remember well that pool on 273 just west of the PRR. Biked there every day in the summer. Anyone remember the Todd Teen Club around 1958-9. Near what was then Ogletown Junior High. Held weekly, dancing upstairs, games room downstairs. Good memories!

Is Ogletown considered a bad area now? I live in Ogletown, and our son, in Christiana.

I wouldn't say Ogletown is a bad area....I guess it really depends on where you are. Christiana has good places and not so good places...pretty much like everywhere.

Thanks. I like the way Delaware isn't de facto segregated like most of Philly. When we were looking for a house down here, all I knew was Newark, and we're very happy here. We're in a very small development, near everything we need with the bonus of really nice neighbors with children who visit. This was a very good move for us.

The Newark Mini Mall had a good bar upstairs, called The Glass Mug, and later, Roosters. Cool place to hang out and knock back a few. Funny I would mention a bar !!

I Do! We used to go there, we were members and then just down the road toward Newark was a pond we used to ice skate on.

Weird, we lived in Chestnut Hill to for a while too (it was new then) and then moved back into town. We lived on Augusta (spelling?) Ave. And, I do remember the orphanage and the Dairy Queen. A good friend lived down the road from it. What a small world.

Nope, just a small state! lol The first house I owned was next door to Chase's best friend. I know I saw him at some point when he was a teenager!
We live in Brookside and have for over 10 yrs. We live in one of the smallest sections, but have one of the largest lots and house, it's been a pretty good place to raise my kids. Living here allowed me to have a home based business so I could be home with my kids when they were little. There are worse areas for sureSo far I just choice my kids and drive them to schools I feel are better than the ones in our feeder pattern. We tried for 2 years to sell our house when the market was really bad. We pulled it off when our oldest started high school. I refuse to make the kids move in high school. So now we'll be here until we decide we need a smaller place when we're older. We are lucky enough to have really great neighbors too
You can only make a mistake once. After that it's a choice.

Right, that's DE for sure, be careful who you talk about, you are probably talking to their cousin! I was playing golf in SC, a member-guest, and someone noticed my WCC bag tag and got to talking about DE, then she asked me if I knew any Disabatino's, EVERYONE knows a Disabatino or two in DE, so I said yes, and come to find out, she was a cousin of Jane Castle who I play golf with at WCC!

Re: Smaller house, never going to happen. We have 5 BR and started to look to downsize and couldn't find anything we liked in this area, the best place would have meant an almost 45 min. drive for my husband to go to work, it was in PA out past Longwood, here he has about a 10 min. drive. So, we stayed and thankfully we did, even with just 2 kids, add a spouse for each and add in 3 and counting grandchildren, when they all come, and they all do come, we are stuffed to the gills!
