Octo-Mom Says No to Free Childcare, Housing

    NBCLosAngeles.com
    updated 9:47 p.m. ET, Fri., Feb. 27, 2009

LOS ANGELES -- Octuplet mom Nadya Suleman rejected an offer by a nonprofit group that planned to provide round-the-clock nursing care to her 14 children, while allowing her entire family to live in a home together, an attorney for the group said Friday.

The offer by Angels in Waiting was made two weeks ago, and the group gave Suleman until Thursday to accept the proposal. The offer would have relied on public donations to help fund the infants' care.

Attorney Gloria Allred, who represents the group, said Suleman spoke with Angels in Waiting founder Linda West-Conforti and seemed to be more interested in "capitalizing on her infants" and doing a reality television show.

"Linda explained to her that Angels in Waiting would not agree to that because of their concern for possible infections that the infants might incur with camera equipment and many other people in the home in addition to the many professionals who would be with the children providing the care," Allred said. "Linda did not wish to risk the health of the little ones."

Questions have been continuing about Suleman's ability to care for the eight new children and the six she already had. Suleman is unmarried and unemployed.

She told talk-show host "Dr. Phil" McGraw this week that she feared Kaiser Permanente Bellflower Medical Center might not release her octuplets to her until she proves she can care for them.

Suleman, 33, and her six children had been staying with her mother at a Whittier home that is now in danger of foreclosure.

The octuplets -- six boys and two girls -- were born Jan. 26, nine and a half weeks premature. They are the nation's longest-surviving octuplets.

Hospital officials said Thursday the infants were doing well. All eight of the babies are breathing room air and no longer need intravenous supplemental nutrition.

"All eight of the babies are gaining weight and continue being fed donated pasteurized breast milk. The introduction of nipple (bottle) feeding is beginning slowly," according to a hospital statement.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

A home, round the clock care, occupational therapy, everything she could have needed to keep her entire family together was there. And she turned it down, because they wouldn't let in cameras!!!

The ONLY offer on the table of help like this, and she turns it down.

If they let the babies start going home with her, I'll be shocked, totally shocked. She'll lose them now and it's probably better that way.

Those kids never had a chance.

I can't stop shaking my head about this, wtf???

What's Allred doing in this mess? I thought she was busy extorting money from Morgan Freeman?

Anyway, I will personally boycott any product advertised on any TV show that let's this psychotic woman exploit her children for money.

If for no other reason than to discourage some other idiot from trying to copy what this woman has done.

This woman is entirely incapable of putting anyone before herself....the single most important characteristic necessary of being a mother. I never thought I'd say this, but Access Hollywood is absolutely correct, it is "gross", it's disgusting. Those kids would've been better off if their mother died in labor.

America is an idea, but it's an idea that brings with it some baggage, like power brings responsibility. It's an idea that brings with it equality, but equality even though it's the highest calling, is the hardest to reach. The idea that anything is possible, that's one of the reasons why I'm a fan of America. - Bono, Commencement University of Pennsylvania May 17, 2004

That may be one of the harshest things ever said.

And yet, entirely appropriate in this case.

Re: Octo-Mom Says No to Free Childcare, Housing

When the McCaughey septuplets were born 12 years ago, it was an awesome story. They were conceived and birthed by a couple, using fertility drugs, not in-vitro.

The McCaugheys were glad to take any help they could get. People donated a 16-room house, a 15-passenger van, and various companies came out in droves with diapers, toys, clothes, furniture etc.

So far, the only offer Nadya Suleman has received is the one from Angels.

Companies like Pampers, etc, won't even come near to this woman.

How deranged and crazy she must be to turn this down, is just so far beyond fathomable, it borders on clinically insane.

This is where the octuplets currently are:

Bellflower Medical Center - Services and Locations - Kaiser Permanente

I can't find an email address or response form, and I'm seriously thinking of giving them a call Monday to let them know what I'll think of their judgment should they let this woman take these babies out of there.

The more I read about this, the more pissed off I get. Can I get someone to watch my babies for free?? My husband and I work VERY hard. We pay our bills, we take excellent care of our kids and get absolutely no assistance whatsoever. We can't even get social security for our son. But nut ass women like this... I'm done. I hope all fourteen of those kids end up with families that will love them and care for them and break a potential bad cycle.

Webform, you need to specify the area, which would be California-Southern, and let them know your message needs to be given to KP Bellflower.

    Select your region

My letter (1,000 characters is all thats allowed, not sure how close I got):

This concerns the octuplets currently at KP Bellflower. Please do not let this woman take these precious babies out of your hospital. She is not fit to raise these babies. She has neither the financial capacity, nor obviously, the mental capacity to do so. She turned down the best offer of help she could get, because they wouldn't allow cameras. Nadya Suleman does NOT deserve these children. They should be adopted out to loving, caring, competent families before it's too late. PLEASE don't release them to her!

Re: Octo-Mom Says No to Free Childcare, Housing

Before Nadya Suleman was ever named as the mother, articles had already stated that she hoped to have a television show that chronicled her life as a mother of fourteen, where she gave parenting "tips."

After reading that, I knew she wouldn' stay anonymous for long. I think two days later she was already giving interviews.

This whole thing has gotten way out of control, and like many of you I can't even believe the audacity and selfishness of this woman.

Turning down the ONLY help being offered to you, when something like 90% of Americans wouldn't give you a dime should be considered child abuse at this point. Let loving, capable families adopt the octuplets, and padlock over this woman's vagina.

Every time I hear more about this nut case it just pisses me off all over again. I so hope the state steps in and takes all her children before she can do any further harm to them. She obviously can't even raise the 6 she has at home, let alone these new 8 that are going to require so much more. She is a danger to these kids in my opinion because it seems like she only had them to get her 15 minutes of fame and to profit from them all. Makes me ill.

Do you think she knows how society (in general) feels about her? Or do you think she still expects us to be lining up to have her sign her book (it's just a matter of time) for us and watch her t.v. show on parenting tips?

I don't think the hospital can release those babies to their mother because the home situation would not be appropriate. I expect to hear that they will go to social services as they are ready to be released from the hospital. Unless she changes something very soon, foster care is next. She seems to be in a fog and just doesn't get it.

Re: Octo-Mom Says No to Free Childcare, Housing

Apparently now Oc.... I mean, Nadya Suleman, has found a way to lease a 2,400 sq ft, 4 Bedroom home, and to go off stamps, AND round up a circle of support to help her along the way with the children and everything else. One company has come forward and is giving her free clothes for all the kids for a year, longer if still needed.

She has an exclusive contract with Radaronline.com, with blogging, which she writes by hand as she doesn't have nor want internet, and sends to them, along with fresh interviews where she responds to accusations and various things in the news that have been said about her.

    Search Results : Radar Online

If she truly is as energetic and resourceful and these interviews etc go, then kudos to her, not many people could this. If she is TRULY trying to make this work, and on her own, I have to applaud her.

BUT if it's all just a guise that's going to lead to a reality show, my kudos will be removed.
