Man mistakes porn soundtrack for rape
WAUKESHA, Wis., Feb. 20 (UPI) -- A Wisconsin man burst through his neighbor's door armed with a sword to save what he thought was a rape victim -- and found a man watching porn.
Would-be savior James Van Iveren now faces charges of criminal trespass to a dwelling, criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct -- all while armed with a dangerous weapon, The Waukesha (Wis.) Freeman reported Tuesday.
The neighbor told police last week Van Iveren kicked in his door and used a sword to back him into a closet, all the while demanding, "Where is she?"
The alleged victim said what his neighbor heard was the soundtrack to a pornographic movie he was enjoying in the privacy of his apartment.
When Van Iveren failed to find any women stashed in the flat, he said the incident was "a mistake" and went home, the newspaper said.
The sword-wielding Samaritan was released on signature bond and ordered back in court March 9.

Fighting surgeons leave patient in the lurch
Wed Feb 21, 2007 8:45am ET
BELGRADE (Reuters) - A routine appendix operation in Belgrade went badly wrong when two surgeons started fighting and stormed from the operating theater to settle their dispute outside, the daily Politika reported Wednesday.
Surgeon Spasoje Radulovic was operating when his colleague Dragan Vukanic entered and made a remark that started a quarrel, said the anesthesiologist on duty.
"At one moment Vukanic pulled the ear of the operating doctor, slapped him in the face and walked out," she said.
Radulovic followed and an all-out fight ensued, resulting in bruises, a split lip, loose teeth and a fractured finger.
The operation was completed successfully by the attending assistant doctor.

Woman stabs lover over poor sex
STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- A Russian woman visiting her Swedish boyfriend is accused of stabbing him in the lung after an argument over disappointing lovemaking.
Police in the northern Swedish town of Lulea told the newspaper Norrlandska Socialdemokraten that the couple agrees the dispute is tied to dissatisfaction with their sex life -- but their story differs on other points, The Local newspaper in Stockholm reported.
The woman, who was visiting her boyfriend on a short-term visa, claims she stabbed her boyfriend in self-defense. The man, who was seriously injured in the attack, claims the fight was solely because of her disappointment with the evening's sex. | | The Following User Says Thank You to Green Lantern For This Useful Post:

Grief over cat blamed for reckless driving
SPRING HILL, Fla., Feb. 22 (UPI) -- A Florida woman ticketed for reckless driving said she hit 19 mailboxes because she couldn't stop crying over the death of her cat that morning.
Tracy Chadwell said the cat, Monty, had helped her get through some difficult times in recent years. The only thing she could think to do was go to work, hoping that would take her mind off the loss, the St. Petersburg Times reported.
Chadwell said she didn't realize she had taken out so many mailboxes and thought it was just a garbage can stuck beneath her truck, the newspaper said.
Deputies say Chadwell passed a sobriety test, although she was taking medication for back and leg pain. She also had a suspended and expired Louisiana driver's license.
Chadwell said she never got a Florida driver's license because all of her paperwork was destroyed in Hurricane Katrina.

Would-be thief fails driving, IQ tests
Heist next to police-dog school ends with suspect’s car in a snow bank
Updated: 5:48 p.m. ET Feb 21, 2007
CALGARY, Alberta - A would-be Canadian thief proved himself lacking in key skills like reconnaissance and driving after he tried to pull a heist beside a police-dog training site and then got stuck in the snow trying to flee.
Police in Edmonton, Alberta, said officers were training with a dog at a business late Tuesday when they heard an alarm sound from the building next door.
When they went to investigate, a car smashed through a garage door and zoomed past an officer and his dog, Wizzard, Edmonton police spokeswoman Karen Carlson said.
“He didn’t get very far because he got stuck in a snow bank,” Carlson said. The car turned out to be stolen.
The suspect tried to make a break for it on foot, but was quickly forced to give himself up when Wizzard caught up with him.
“There was a marked police car parked outside and they were inside the building doing training, which is normal for us,” Carlson said. “Then, sure enough, this goes on right next door to them.”
Police recovered a cash box taken from the building. The 23-year-old male faces charges.

Lawmaker Comes Down on Plastic Gonads
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Fake bull testicles and other anatomically explicit vehicle decorations would be banned from Maryland roads under a bill pending in the state legislature.
The measure was filed in the General Assembly Monday by Delegate LeRoy E. Myers Jr., R-Washingon, who says children shouldn't be exposed to giant plastic gonads dangling from pickup truck trailer hitches. The bill also would ban depictions of naked human breasts, buttocks or genitals, with offenses punishable by fines of up to $500.
"It's time to take a stand," Myers told The (Hagerstown) Herald-Mail.
The American Civil Liberties Union objected to Myers' bill.
"The legislation is overly broad, and would probably make it illegal to have a sticker on your car of the Venus de Milo from an art museum," ACLU of Maryland spokeswoman Meredith Curtis wrote in an e- mail.
Pamela Campbell whose Bullhead City, Ariz., business sells fake bull testicles, suggested that the swinging decorations can prompt healthy discussions about anatomy and reproduction.
"Do we have to neuter all dogs that walk by us?" she asked. "Where does it stop?" Last week, Arizona's legislature rejected a measure that would have banned vehicle splash guards bearing racist terms or silhouettes of naked women.

Text Messages Land Teacher in Hot Water
Feb 23 11:49 PM US/Eastern
MURRAY, Ky. (AP) -- A middle school teacher trying to buy pot was arrested after she sent text messages to state trooper instead of a dealer, police said.
Trooper Trevor Pervine was at dinner with his wife and parents celebrating a birthday when his phone started buzzing with messages about a marijuana purchase.
At first, Pervine thought the messages were from friends playing a joke, Kentucky State Police spokesman Barry Meadows said. But a couple of phone calls put that idea to rest, and Pervine responded to set up a meeting, Meadows said.
Authorities say Ann Greenfield, 34, arrived at the meeting point and found Pervine and other law enforcement officers waiting for her.
"She learned her lesson. Program your dealers into your phone," Meadows said.
Greenfield, a teacher at Murray Middle School, was charged with conspiracy to traffic in controlled substances within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, Meadows said.
She was suspended with pay pending results of an investigation, the Murray Independent School District said in a statement posted Friday on the district's Web site. A message seeking comment left at a listing for an Ann Greenfield in Murray, Ky. was not returned.

Stand-in mistress sought to take wife's abuse
BEIJING (Reuters) - A Chinese businessman has advertised on the Internet for a stand-in mistress to be beaten up by his wife to vent her anger and to protect his real mistress, Chinese media reported on Monday.
"When the woman found out her husband had a mistress, she insisted on beating her up," the Beijing Youth Daily said, citing the advertisement posted on a popular online jobs forum on sina.com.
More than 10 people had applied for the job, the newspaper said. The "successful" candidate would be 35 and originally from northeastern China and would be paid 3,000 yuan ($400) per 10 minutes, it said.
Many Chinese businessmen keep mistresses in second homes, a trend banished after the Communists swept to power in 1949 but which has made a comeback with market reforms in recent decades.

Study: Top global fetishes deal with feet
BOLOGNA, Italy, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- A comprehensive study conducted by Italy's University of Bologna has found that the most popular sexual fetishes involve feet and shoes.
In what was described as the most expansive study of its kind, researchers found that 47 percent of those surveyed expressed an interest in feet and toes over other body parts, The Independent on Sunday reported.
When it came to objects associated with the body, 64 percent said they were excited by footwear such as boots and high heels.
Some of the fetishes bordered on the unusual -- with 150 people saying they are turned on by hearing aids, and two who said they had an unusual attraction to pacemakers.
The lowest-ranking fetishes discovered in the survey of approximately 5,000 people were bracelets, wristwatches, stethoscopes, diapers and catheters.
The paper said the complete findings of the study are to be published in "The International Journal of Impotence Research."

Lesbianism common in captive koalas
QUEENSLAND, Australia, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Captive female koalas in Australia have been observed engaging in homosexual acts, with some sessions involving as many as five koalas.
The Independent on Sunday reported that despite the presence of males, the female koalas apparently preferred each other. Researchers said the behavior has only been observed in captive koalas; wild koalas remain heterosexual.
Scientists who were monitoring the koalas with digital cameras said there were three times as many homosexual encounters than heterosexual ones.
Scientists from the University of Queensland studied 130 koalas in captivity. They will publish their results in the journal Applied Animal Behavior Science. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
