Gardens Does Anyone Have One?

Just curious. I usually plant a garden every year. But then halfway through the summer I don't feel like weeding and watering. I had a mutant cucumber plant that made 300 cukes. My son loaded up a wagon and pulled it with a bike and sold them to the neighbors.

Does anyone else have gardens or plan to have one this year? If so, what do you plan to grow?

Re: Gardens Does Anyone Have One?

For the first time in years I'm gonna plant a garden, I got it staked out and have enough room to grow a few rows of corn as well as, beens, squash, brussel sprouts, tomatoes and a few other things. I don't have a lot of room for corn but I'm can't find good yellow corn around here so I'm gonna give it a whirl

Perhaps a TD garden share club is in order?

Re: Gardens Does Anyone Have One?

I'm not a real green thumb person, but when I finally get out of the apartment, I'd LOVE to grow a lilac bush. Lilacs are my favorite flower. When I used to live in Delaware City with my exhusband we tried numerous times to grow one and it was very difficult. I would rack it up to all the pollution in Delaware City, but my mom lives in Newark and she does have a green thumb and she doesn't have any luck either. Leave it to me to love a flower that's hard to grow!

Re: Gardens Does Anyone Have One?

I like to grow pumpkins and it is a little early, other than that I grow tomatoes and green peppers. I do love my roses but they don;t seem to go to well because of the sandy soil I have. One of these years I want to try grapes...

Re: Gardens Does Anyone Have One?

I live in an apartment and I get a container garden growing every year.

I've got cherry tomatoes in hanging baskets, big boy tomatoes and jalapeno peppers in buckets, bush beans, scallions, and arugula. I'd like to try potatoes in garbage bags this year, but since we're probably going to be moving in the middle of the summer, I don't know how feasible that is.

Re: Gardens Does Anyone Have One?

I love gardening.
I didn't get the green thumb that my mom handed down to my sister and brothers but I try my best at keeping everything alive. My brother can grow anything and can diagnose any plant or soil type. He's incredibly helpful and gets a kick out of my attempts to have a colorful garden.

My soil is very acidic where I am... property backs to woods and merging creeks. So I am limited to acid loving plants.

I have big plans to step this up this year. Should be interesting with all this rain now, if it'll continue or if we'll get a dryer summer. I don't believe in sprinklers or wasting water on my yard and gardens.... so if mother nature doesn't water them, I'll use gray water or let them die. Planting only native plants helps as they are used to our planting zone.

Note to Max.... dude, what can't you do???

Re: Gardens Does Anyone Have One?

Good luck with the corn max. They take up a lot of space and only yield one ear per stalk. My bro in law tried it and got fed up.

Here we do cucumbers, tomatoes and jalapeno peppers.
Funny story. Wife was done picking a few of the hot peppers and ate a few. I didn't know. Anyway, one thing led to another and I ended up running to the bathroom and scrubbing my package with cold water and soap, Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!
