Do you use an Attic Fan?

I just became a home owner in the last 4 years. I can be a bit obsessive about my house, but I do find it odd that more homeowers do not care about the heat in their attic. What does that 150 degrees heat do to the upper frame of your house? Do you worry about it? Do you use a Attic fan. I do. I read if saves you 30 % of your AC bill, but I use it for all the parts of the house that could be damaged by the heat.

One thing I do also to open my attic door and blow air up there in the very hottest part of the day--just for a 10 min or so. Like I said I am obsessive.

I have a condo... no attic.

But I do use various floor fans.

Re: Do you use a Attic Fan?

We use an attic fan. I have a thermostat set on ours that automatically turns the fan on when the air gets too hot up there. It has been running for 3 days straight around the clock.

I've never had a house w/o an attic fan so I can't compare the diff.

What's more is a "Whole House" attic fan, fitted into the attic floor (or the ceiling of the living area if you rather) and designed to draw upward, talk about a breeze with the windows open ...

*Dual purpose, indeed

MO's right... My mother's house has one of those and when it works, it's awesome.

And when it doesn't, the air conditioner can't work hard enough to cool down the second floor.

What I wonder that if you dont what happens to the frame of your house, rafters etc if you dont. That 150 degree heat has to be bad for it

Is it in need of repairs (?), a new belt maybe if it's slipping, they're an incredibly simply design ...

I haven't checked with her recently, but I'll see. I remember living there about 10 years ago and dying in the summertime because she wouldn't get the damned thing fixed.
