Colony Colapse Disorder

For those of you interested in what I've been going on and on about lately.....

I've done just a little bit of research about why the bee population has been dwindling (Colony Colapse Disorder)and have come up with this
  • varroa mite parasite. Evidently this lovely creature feeds on the bee's bodily fluids and travels from hive to hive VERY rapidly.

  • Some scientists believe it could be some sort of contagious disease.

  • Stress Level of the bees. Evidentally beekeeper's transporting their bees all over the place can make them stressed which can lower their immunity

These 60 Minutes videos are very interesting and informative as well:

Re: Colony Colapse Disorder

Every time I see a honey bee I check it for varroa mites.

There was a discussion about this a few months ago.

No problem. It's not painful, they don't sting me. If they did, I wouldn't do it, since they die once they sting.

AE wasn't any sort of Biologist, and even if it's something that can be attributed to him which has never been proven, it's speculation at best ...

*Some say that he said it, and there's no record of him having ever said it, anywhere, must be gospel
