A multi-vehicle crash involving a train is blocking Del. 71 (Red Lion Road) in Kirkwood.

One minor injury is reported.

Del. 71 is closed at the Conrail crossover near Kirkwood-St. Georges Road., which is near Lums Pond State Park. Northbound traffic is blocked at Howell School Road, southbound traffic is being stopped at Kirkwood-St. Georges Road.

The accident happened about 6:40 a.m.

State police and Christiana Fire Company crews are on the scene.

A Hyundai Sante Fe SUV and a Subaru were involved in the crash. The SUV appeared to have the most damage.

The freight train remains stopped across the highway. The crossing has no crossing gates, but the flashing lights remain in operation.

I hope everyone is ok. I think the worst railroad crossing is in newark off of main street, bad location, lots of students, and lots of bars!

There seems to be a rash of train incidents lately. Trains versus people and now train versus car, just seems to be a lot being reported right now.

How in the F&%k do you not see a train coming??

Someone had heir head up their ass. Go by there quite often the lights work, you can't see a train coming from the north, headed south easily but I have never seen a time when the lights were not working properly.

This person was just an idiot and this is a case where the idiot should have to pay the all expenses incurred by the various responding units and the rail company for the time lost. I'm sure an attorney can put a dollar figure on it.
