Philadelphia's Spectrum to be demolished

Saw my first concert there too....don't remember the year, but it was Duran Duran

I saw many an Event at the Spectrum, and most of that was before it had Corporate Sponsorship (CoreStates, First Union, Wachovia, et al ...), although I guess at $40million for 29 years I would let someone name my building too.

A few events that I attended there:

Billy Joel, Madonna, Guns N Roses, The 43rd NHL All Star Game, too many Flyers games to list including their loss the the Russians in 1990, a few Sixers games and some others.

Nothing can compete with the sound of a roaring crowd in a tightly designed Sports Complex, not even a new building with it's fancy Club Boxes and restricted Concourses. The Flyers are set to play one pre-season game at the Spectrum in the coming year and the Sixers will be playing one regular season game there. I say they should play one last game each against the old Patrick Division teams, they would sell out in a matter of minutes ...
