What's that gonna do to the small grocers? And if they don't participate, they lose business to the big chains that can easily afford it. And the mom and pop liquor stores, like Witchy says. Employing 5 to 10 people who need those jobs everywhere across the state.
I understand, in places like VA and NC and SC...where you have to find a state ABC store to get liquor only, that it makes sense to allow grocers to retail beer and wine. That shit's a pain in the ass. They're 10's of miles apart, and hardly ever open...ridiculous.
I don't know how much more convenient it can be than being able to buy all alcoholic beverages at the same place/same time, like we already have.
I'm not gonna lose sleep if this passes, but I think it's bad and unnecessary legislation, and I'd vote against it if it was up to me.

What a crew. And I'm just wondering what time the little store down the street opens. I should probably get the store owner's opinion on this subject.
(And while I'm there...)

I was looking for a specific wine and I couldn't get anyone to help. So will these stores have experts or just regular grocery store clerks? I enjoy going to my LQ store because I am always looking for new things to try, and the manager is very knowledgeable and offers great opinions for my wines. I have yet to dislike a wine he recommended to me. I am mixed about it though. DE is one of the only ones that do not do it, but we shouldn't change just because everyone else did. I do not want it to hurt the stores, unless the grocery stores offer to buy he liquor from them and employ the workers/owners to make up for the loss of business. Hope that makes sense. | | The Following 2 Users Say Thank You to jpsickle For This Useful Post: | | Re: Bill would let grocers sell wine, beer

Colorado - no liquor sales on Sundays. Grocery stores can sell 3.2 beer.
North Carolina - ABC stores. Unmarked, inconvenient, and limited hours. They sold the hard stuff; you could get the wine and beer at the grocery store. Still quite a few dry counties down there. And there aren't regular bars - there are clubs where you have to buy a membership to drink there. And their drinks are all portioned from those little airplane liquor bottles. REtarded.
Missouri - everything in the liquor store! Beautiful thing.
Maryland - private liquor stores.
Utah - Kegs are illegal.
I love our local liquor store (mad props to Branmar Liquors!!!), so I agree that I wouldn't want to see them lose business. That is my store!! Jim is the best when it comes to wine!! | Re: Bill would let grocers sell wine, beer

| | | I have been going to the same store for 20 years. It is Indian owned and they switch off when they have to back to India, but the same 3 guys have been back and forth for 20 years. All three are great guys. The original guy came back a few weeks ago and was so happy to see me he grabbed me and hugged me. So happy I still patron his store after all this time. They are right next to the Acme in University Plaza, so I certainly would still go to him. | Re: Bill would let grocers sell wine, beer

If you like Blue Moon, you'll probably like Shiner's Hefeweizen. Hefeweizen (Hef-ay-vite-zen) recalls the classic beers of Bavaria as a true unfiltered wheat brew. This beer captures old-world Munich Malt, wheat grist used in a scant 1% of all brews worldwide, orange and lemon zest in a frothy classic example of bottle-conditioned beer. Adding clover honey and yeast just before it's bottled touches off a unique, secondary fermentation process inside every keg and bottle before its final release from the brewery. | | The Following 3 Users Say Thank You to witchofthedogs For This Useful Post: | | Re: Bill would let grocers sell wine, beer

I will have to try it. Is there only one Hefeweizen or are there multiples? I know I have seen it before, and I have a few friends who drink it. | Re: Bill would let grocers sell wine, beer

Shiner only makes one (with the yellow label), though other breweries make it as well. I like the Shiner brew in summertime because it's very light and citrusy. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
