Weather service warns of 'certain death' in face of Ike
The pools of standing water were creating breeding zones for mosquitoes, which were beginning to fill the air, and city officials asked the county to begin spraying to kill the larvae. One man was found on the street with more than 1,000 mosquito bites, Ms. Cahill said. He was airlifted to the hospital.
Okay, that's bad!! And to listen to the idiots on the news this morning that wouldn't leave. One father said his 12 yr daughter at one point went and wrote her name and SS# on her arm because she said for sure they were all going to die. They had life jackets on that probably saved them. How can you do that to your family? If you want to die - okay - but give your kids a chance to live!! Stupid!

In its brief lifespan of only 13 days, Hurricane Ike wreaked great deal of havoc. Affecting several countries including Cuba, Haiti, and the United States, Ike is blamed for approximately 114 deaths (74 in Haiti alone), and damages that are still being tallied, with estimates topping $10 billion. Many shoreline communities of Galveston, Texas were wiped from the map by the winds, storm surge and the walls of debris pushed along by Ike - though Galveston was spared the level of disaster it suffered in 1900.

The pictures are incredible! The sad part is that this is reality for so many people in Texas. Can't even imagine having to go through that. Thanks for posting them.
