Time Capsule Found In Revolutionary War Monument

BOSTON -- A crew doing routine work on a Quincy monument discovered a time capsule that dates back more than 100 years, according to the Patriot Ledger.

While taking apart the 114-year-old Abigail Adams Cairn on Tuesday, a masonry reconstruction team found a metal box inside the stone structure inside a brick-lined chamber, the newspaper reported.

The monument was built in 1896 by the Daughters of the American Revolution to mark the spot where the future first lady and 7-year-old John Quincy Adams watched the Battle of Bunker Hill and the burning of Charlestown.

A 1889 U.S. penny and a commemorative medal were found along with the box, which was soldered shut. Local historians guessed that the box may contain everyday items. It was brought to the historical society at the Adams Academy, where members will determine the best way to open it.

The cairn, at Franklin Street and Viden Road, will be taken apart stone by stone to be repaired and put back together again.

Awesome. I love stuff like that. Can't wait to hear what they found in it.

Re: Time Capsule Found In Revolutionary War Monument

I think, if I were to prepare a time capsule of everyday items from my home, it would include a bottle of pet-odor removing carpet cleaning solution, a can of ground coffee, a tube of Pringles (X-treme Dill Pickle flavor), an iPod, a remote control for the television, and a bottle of Jack Daniels.

No. He hasn't been on-line since before all that stuff got released. Which is odd.

Although, he's hyper paranoid about some stuff. He won't have IM chats open if he's looking at bank statements. So who knows. As soon as I see him next I'll ask him but he'll probably only have something very insulting and derogatory to say about Julia Childs or something.

Re: Time Capsule Found In Revolutionary War Monument

It probably contains Washington and Jefferson's stash and bong collection.

And Thomas Paine's vintage porn.

And Ben Franklin's viagra.

I like Witchofthedogs' idea...what would everyone put in their own time capsule? This stuff is neat.

Re-write for historical accuracy:

Grover Cleveland's stash and bong collection.

John D. Rockefeller's porn collection.

Mark Twain's viagra.
