Researchers find on/off switch for stress-obesity link

That roll of fat on your belly may be there because of everyday stresses, and researchers think they may know a way to get rid of it.

Studies in mice and monkeys show that repeated stress — and a high-fat, high-sugar diet — stimulate release of an appetite hormone called neuropeptide Y, which causes fat to build up in the abdomen, researchers from Georgetown University reported Sunday.

By manipulating levels of that hormone, they could make fat melt from areas where it was not desired and accumulate at sites where it is needed, they said in the journal Nature Medicine.

Anyone think this is a good thing? Does it promote laziness? Any other ideas to effectively lose weight?

Would be nice if it worked. Because of a injury I am not allowed to excersise. I watch what I eat, I don't do fast food, accept the occasional pizza. I think stress is a factor in alot of situations.

I think may women will agree that hormones can absolutely cause an increased appetite and weight gain. I wish someone would melt my fat. If I'm craving chocolate, a celery stick is not going to cut it.

Ever notice certain times of the month you are heavier than others. Never fails, going into the doctors, hopping up on those scales and they say, "you gained a few pounds"
