Robb said it. You live there, you ought to know better.
Is it MY kind of justice?
No. I don't think a 13 year old deserved to die for breaking into an empty house with his dumbass friends. Jail, juvenile detention home...some sort of punishment, absolutely.
But again, I'm pro-life. I don't think people should be killed for mistakes that can be atoned for...like stealing junk food and trespassing/burglary.

He was outnumbered and some areas consider more than a group of 3 teens a gang. | | The Following 4 Users Say Thank You to Robb For This Useful Post:

I don't know what the guy intended to find when he burst in on these kids. Maybe he found himself in a situation he wasn't prepared to handle. Maybe he didn't mean to shoot the kid, maybe the kid lunged at him...who knows.
And maybe this guy doesn't deserve to go to jail. I can't really say I feel in my heart that he should. The only way I would know the answer to that is if I knew that he could have avoided killing the kid and did it anyway out of anger and not fear for his safety.
All I know is that a 13 year old is dead for burglary and B&E into any empty house. He didn't surprise a homeowner or terrorize a family. He was stealing.
It saddens me that this could be a reason to applaud. That is not justice. That's not even Old Testament, eye for an eye justice.
I can even understand an "Oh well. Should've known better" attitude.
I just don't get the sentiment that the entire country would be better off if we started shooting 13 year-olds for non-violent crimes. | | The Following 2 Users Say Thank You to Kid Lester For This Useful Post:

My Mood: | | | Re: Neighbors Defend Texan Accused of Murdering Teen Over Snacks They boys broke into someone's HOME, not an "empty house". They had no right to do that, period. "They went in for snacks" or so the remaining three little heathen claim now that they are caught. That's like me stealing a Viper and getting pulled over and trying to claim, well it wasn't being used and I was only going to use a couple gallons of gas. As my old boss would say "I'm calling bullshit on that". And we can all only imagine if we walked in on robbers in a group of 4 what we would do. Teens these days are as apt to kill you as an adult would.

Well since I posted about Philly needing some laws like this, I'll say that it isn't for the 13 yr olds (although I'm sure Philly has their share of 13 year old murderers), but I think we need to get to the point that a criminal will need to second guess if the bank/restaurant/store they are going to rob has 40 armed individuals in it or if that house down the street has 5 armed individuals in it or that person they are about to mug down the street has a bigger weapon than they do. Right now the criminals have easy pickens. They probably have a 1% chance of facing a person who won't be a victim and the other 99% are easy marks. The odds are in the criminals favor. And if they do get injured in their heist, they can just sue the pants off their victim. Gotta love it. | | The Following 3 Users Say Thank You to Robb For This Useful Post: | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
