My Mood: | | | Kate Moss statue 'largest since ancient Egypt' LONDON, England (CNN) -- The British Museum plans to display a statue of supermodel Kate Moss that it bills as the largest gold statue built since ancient Egypt. The statue of Kate Moss will be displayed in the British Museum in a gallery holding anicent Greek sculpture.
Called "Siren," the statue will be part of a group of major sculptures by leading British artists to go on display at the museum in October, the museum announced.
The museum says the artist, Marc Quinn, claims it's the largest gold statue since ancient Egypt.
His previous work included the marble sculpture Alison Lapper Pregnant, which appeared on a plinth in London's Trafalgar Square.
The Kate Moss statue, weighing 50kg, will be displayed in a gallery of the museum that houses ancient Greek sculpture. The museum calls it a "fitting setting" for the statue of Moss, "interacting with the great Greek beauties that surround it."
Moss, whose slight frame was at the forefront of the waif look in the mid-1990s, is now nearly as well known for her celebrity lifestyle as her modeling career.
The one-time girlfriend of British rocker Pete Doherty is a tabloid newspaper and celebrity magazine favorite, and now dates Kills guitarist Jamie Hince.
She has recently mixed her modeling work with designing collections for the British clothing giant, Topshop.
Other artists exhibiting include Damien Hirst, who most recently created a $100 million diamond-covered skull, and Angel of the North creator Anthony Gormley.
The exhibit is expected to run from October 4 through January 25, 2009. |

My Mood: | | | Re: Kate Moss statue 'largest since ancient Egypt' Not mentioned in this article was the statue's incredible attention to detail, down to Ms. Moss's most minute features.
Not only are her nose and eyes perfectly sculpted, but a smattering of finely crushed diamond sits precariously inside one nostril and each gaunt thigh is pocked with tiny needle jabs.

My Mood: | | | Re: Kate Moss statue 'largest since ancient Egypt' Why? That's all I want to know...why? Did she cure cancer? feed starving children? create jobs for thousands of people? fight segregation and racism? No, she is one of the fortunate ones that God happened to gift with a beautiful face and body (that she nearly destroyed by damn near starving herself to death in the name of fashion, which, incidentally, exacerbates the body image issues in our society). So, because she's beautiful, and has made a fortune based on essentially nothing but her looks, we now have a giant statue of her to gaze upon. I'm actually surprised that she doesn't want it merely gold plated over paper mache' so that the world won't say, "OMG! 50kg!"

She is not "beautiful", just has a pretty face and is really fucking skinny. That's why all those misogynistic homosexual fashion designers love to torture normal humans by naming her an impossible standard of "beauty".
When I see her I want to force-feed her bacon double cheeseburgers and pour milkshakes into a tube through her nose to her stomach. My standard of beautiful? Alicia Machado fits the bill a whole lot better.... or at least she's not rattling around in it right, Kid? | | The Following User Says Thank You to Panama Girl For This Useful Post:

There's no way.
Hopefully I'd be able to convince my wife to work it out in counseling or something, but I'd HAVE to take that opportunity.

My Mood: | | | Re: Kate Moss statue 'largest since ancient Egypt' Okay, I had to google image search her... yup...she's gorgeous. but I don't think she deserves a statue either... what has she done? I guess I'm taking this opportunity to bitch about our society in general and our priorities. Why do the beautiful get our attention rather than those who are intelligent and using thier gifts for the good of all? Why can't those people be celebrated rather than society always feting the superficial? | | The Following 2 Users Say Thank You to wendy For This Useful Post:

My Mood: | | | Re: Kate Moss statue 'largest since ancient Egypt' Oh, I didn't say anything about either of them deserving any statues.... and I totally agree on how superficial our society has become.
*sigh*
I tried to come up with an example of someone deserving a statue... couldn't think of anyone alive who does, and some of the living-impaired who might qualify, well... I'll not say anything so as not to offend. | | The Following User Says Thank You to Panama Girl For This Useful Post:

The teachers who convince kids to stay in school, even though our common urban culture works its damnedest to lure them away. The people who volunteer in soup kitchens and shelters, even though they may have a comfortable home waiting for them. Firemen, police officers, nurses... There are plenty of people out there who deserve our respect but rarely get it. | | The Following 4 Users Say Thank You to witchofthedogs For This Useful Post:
