Beach Buffs Give Back, Litter By Litter

DEWEY BEACH -- The Haughey family -- dad Bill, son Cameron and daughters Shelby and J.B. -- walk the stretch of Delaware's ocean coast at Tower Road just south of here at least twice a year to pick up trash others leave behind.

I was just at Bellevue State Park on Saturday, for a "trial run" before the Walk For Autism this Saturday.

I filled up two of the plastic grocery-type bags they have in little stations around the park with trash I picked up off of the ground. Really pisses me off that people have no respect.

Littering is one of my bigger pet peeves. I've always told my kids that there are no trash fairies. And they have been known to pick up trash around our neighborhood and on the playground because they have seen me doing it and know that it just looks disgusting and is just from people being lazy or thinking that "someone else will pick it up". How friggin hard is it to just throw your trash away? Especially on the beach because then it's left for others to step on or it gets pulled out with the tide. People just piss me off at times.
