Here's a solution to all the controversy over full-body scanners, searches, pat downs, etc. Have an appropriate booth that you can step into that will not X-ray you, but WILL detonate any explosive device you may have on you.

They get their wish and we get ours!

I saw this happen in the Outer Banks one summer.

Guy across the street from the beach house we were renting was really strange, and his antics kept me amused while I was on the porch taking my nicotine.

Well one day, he comes out of his house, and goes tinkering with his bike, and all of a sudden stands up and sprints back into his house.

Comes out with a pistol.

At this point I was standing half in the door half out going, "Guys.. guys.. the crazy man across the street is armed."

The rest of the people in the house weren't really chuffed. "Aw, it's probably just an air soft gun."

I said, "No, it is most certainly NOT an air soft gun,"

And then he started shooting. At some spot in the vacant lot next door to him which was covered in tall grass and weeds.

Since the noise made it clear that it was NOT an air soft gun, everyone ran out on the porch, but the guy was done completely unloading into the vacant lot, which had absolutely nothing in it that I could see except a lot of grass.

Later that night, the boys encountered him in the street and asked him what he was shooting at.

The guy goes, "Duuuuuuudde. There was a HUGE spider over there. That sucker was about as big as a SOFTBALL duuuuuuuuudes I'm not kiddin'."

When they came back over and told me that.. I was like, "Wow. Seriously, the guy unloaded.. on a spider. Just wow."



The Crazy Man's House is the white house behind me in this picture. Huge Spider Lot, which looking at it now isn't really a lot just the space between that house and the one next to it, is to the left of the house. The house next door to that did not, at the time, have anyone in it.

That comment is not really flinging insults, it is not meant to call you stupid, but rather that you made a dumb comment. If you are that insecure and were hurt by that please forgive me.

It looks like Py completely validated DelGuy's "Stuck On Stupid" comment.

Seriously.. the way they described him, he apparently talked like Pauly Shore, acted extremely feminine, and he looked like The Dude.

I'm pretty sure he had been dropping acid or something and there was no spider to speak of. Let alone one as big around as a softball.

Talk about stuck on stupid.

(Funny add to that story: When the boys saw him in the street that night, after he explained what he was shooting at, he proceeded to ask our friend for his boxers.)

If anyone who is both a fool and a gun carrier wants to discuss this
issue with me, I'd be glad to. Please stand still in the doorway of my
house (less chance of me damaging my walls). And if you want to
discuss this out front of my house, because I don't have a permit to
carry, no problem. I'll pay my fine and take my chances with a jury.

I guess that I'm just used to people on this site showing a little more courtesy than you did.

Of course the ironic part being that Py was able to give a real world example of the exact thing that you found so stupid to even mention.

To answer this question seriously (before the thread was highjacked
with a blatant display of sexiness), I'm not sure carrying a gun makes
you any more safe. Crazy people do crazy shit. Even if you have a
gun and know how to use it, just like with any weapon or any altercation,
there are no guarantees. I'd like to think I could take a douchebag out
with a Navy Seal-like precision to the head (ha ha ha you stupid frickin'
pirates!), but you never know. Does having a gun on you give you a
false sense of security? Does having it there just make you "feel" better,
but not really provide that much more of an advantage? What I'm
trying to say is this is a hard question to answer. It depends on a lot of
factors.

I still believe people should be able to carry guns, as long as applicable
qualifications are met. And I'm on board with what Rusty said about
assault rifles. I just make the analogy with drugs. Heroin is illegal but
we certainly don't have a shortage of heroin addicts. Legal or not, if
people want something bad enough, they will get it.
