Spinal Injections

I'm wondering if what's going on with me is normal. I got the injections last Friday (not yesterday, a week ago), under sedation, cant deal with needles. I was almost pain-free for like 3 or 4 days, it was really nice, I was friggin happy about that. But then the pain started coming back and now I'm in agony. I'm in MORE pain now than I was before I got the damn shots! This is just crazy. I mean whats the point in getting them if this is going to happen?? I'm a little upset about this right now. I have a lot to do this weekend, and I can hardly walk now.

Anyone else ever had these before and did this happen to you too??

Re: Spinal Injections

I have had cortisone spinal injections several times for a herniated disc, but never had a reaction like that. Does your doctor have anyone on-call you can talk to about this?

Re: Spinal Injections

Definetely need to make an emergency call to your doctor.
I wouldn't think the pain should be worse.

Re: Spinal Injections

Umm what are they injecting?

My ex had to go through this about 4 years ago. They were injecting cortisone. He said that after the first 3 or 4 times, his pain free state lasted longer and longer.

To give you a little background...

One day, he laid down after work to take a short nap. He woke up about an hour later in extreme pain and unable to move his left leg. At first they diagnosed Gillain Barre Syndrome. Nope, it wasn't that.

Honestly, they never figured out exactly what was wrong with him. In short order, they had him addicted to oxycontin. It took about 2 years, and 6 to 12 cortisone injections, but he kicked both the oxycontin and the pain.

Re: Spinal Injections

No, it's pain management, theyre only open during the week. My own doctor is on vacation. I'm waiting a bit to see if the meds help at all, if not I have no idea what I'll do. I'm just curious if this has happened to other people, because if this is a common thing, I'm not going back.

Re: Spinal Injections

By all means Decent go to the emergency room. From there they can tell you what is going on.

Re: Spinal Injections

Over the course if the last 10 yrs i have had over 8 Nerve root blocks..aka spinal injections.before i got my first one the doctor told me it may not work you usually Know within the first week ,well needless to say,i was told if they dont work my only option is surgical, which i have had 2 and i am pening a 3rd.SOmetimes it takes multiple injections to the affected area to be affective.I just had a set of three done over the last month, and i am doing OK im just trying to prolong the 3rd surgury a year or so, IMO if you think it is worse call you doctor they have a on call doctor and he will tell you what you should do,never hesitate when it involves your back, trust me i learned the hard way, hope you make out better than me.

Re: Spinal Injections

My mother has had many spinal injections for control of back pain; of course when the shots wear off the pain slowly comes back, but she's never said that it is worse. If anything she claims the opposite.

This sounds like something you should look into right away!

Re: Spinal Injections

I dont think it's worse, I think it just feels that way because I had no pain at all for a few days. I just think though if this is going to happen everytime, I wont get anymore. Although someone said it takes a few times to really work, so I may give it a chance.

Unfortunately, yes I had a similar experience but don't recall any relief not even initially. The evening of the injection I started having sharp shooting pains, and called the Dr who told me it wasn't uncommon to be in some discomfort after the injection, but it should go away in 24 - 36 hours and then I should get some relief. That never happened, and the pain increased, although the pain management Dr insisted it wasn't from the injection.

In fact I was supposed to have one (an epidural injection) yesterday at the Lewes Surgical Center and cancelled it. I was ready to give it another try since it has been a few years, but this Dr told me that it CAN increase the pain, and I chickened out, after what happened last time.

However, I WOULD make an emergency call and have things checked out. Everyone is different and I can tell you I sure did. I have so many back problems now, I don't play around, and neither should you.

I hope you feel better soon! I know how awful that pain can be
