I have a multitude of back troubles also, and mostly like you I live with the pain and use as little narcotics as possible. It does wear you down. From time to time I too have to make the dreaded trip to the ER. It is usually during the weekends when I "overdo" it and the Drs aren't available. At the ER they have checked me for Kidney Stones, at least twice, both times negative. They checked my lungs last time, and did find something but unrelated to the pain I was experiencing. The end result is them telling me I already know I have back problems what do I want them to do? It is ridiculous.

What gets to me is that those of us with proof of medical problems in our backs are treated more unfairly than those who have these "unknown" pains and problems.

Mostly the Doctors do not have any answers. I have been through several Doc's who have released me for care because they have "done all they can" with little or no results. I'm just supposed to live with it. That just isn't very satisfying.

Re: Spinal Injections

Sadly enough, the doctors are generally correct about not being able to do anything. There's not enough technology or informatrion available yet to allow them to really do anything more than they're doing now. Some of them get just as frustrated at not being able to help as we are at not being able to get it.

I think the main problem is government spending going to the wrong places. Instead of funding research to find cures for things like spinal cord injuries and central nervous system disorders, our goverment is doing things like sending farm subsidies checks to 47 “farmers” in Beverly Hills, California - $1.3 million; $19.6 million annually on the International Fund for Ireland (for projects like pony-trekking centers and golf videos.); and don't forget Stargate - about $11 million.

Until we get better research and more answers, it's going to continue to be this way. Thank God for people like Christopher Reeve.

I really wish someone would at least invent a 'Pain-ray", like an X-ray, just shows true pain, so at least I'd be believed.
