I know I'm new here, but I hope it's ok that I jumped in and created a new social group that I named "Local Natural Foods". In the past year I've been taking little steps as I can to eat more local and seasonal foods, to eat more foods that are grown using natural/organic and sustainable farming practices, and just to overall take what steps I can to live my life in a way that starts to reduce the things I do that aren't necessarily in our environment's best interest.
To me this is all about taking baby steps, NOT about becoming a fanatic about it. What I've done so far includes that I joined a CSA (community supported agriculture) farm that uses natural farming practices so that we're eating seasonal local naturally-raised produce, beef, poultry and eggs, I bought a freezer to freeze the excess so that we are eating local foods all year round, I picked a few things that (from my perspective) have the greatest impact with regard to organic/local verses non-organic/long-distance and focused on using those things instead of the alternatives, and I just take whatever baby steps I can. I have SO much more that I want to eventually do - walk or bike to work (I'm only a mile away so honestly there's no excuse, but still I drive), cut back on how much we go out to eat (I do love me a good restaurant though!), and keep on with the process of gradually increasing the proportion of sustainably farmed local/natural foods that we eat.
I really fear that this world is at risk for my grandchildren and future great-grandchildren. I'm not foolish enough to think that my getting pastured chicken and beef from an all natural farm and produce grown naturally will by itself make a significant difference, but I also feel that every individuals little actions and choices can ultimately add up to improve this world we live in.
So anyway, if anyone else here is interested in things like this, I'd love to connect with you!
