Do You Work Out? Where? Results? Diet?

Just wondering how many people here have some kind of regular exercise program, accompanied by some sort of eating plan. I know there are plenty of gyms out there, plus the "C-u " places I attend 3x week, and have for 1 1/2 years. What can I say? I'm the oldest poster on here (probably) and it's working for me. I've lost 38 lbs., body fat % has dramatically decreased, BP 110/70, and cholesterol and triglyceride readings are better than normal.

What I eat, and What I don't:
No more sodas, of any kind
All the water I can drink in a day
No sugar, or I read labels so there's minimal sugar
Limited, but no elimination of carbs
Uncle Sam Cereal for Breakfast with non-fat milk
Salmon......2-3 times/week....broiled, baked, steamed
Basically, I just Watch It, but have my favorite treats in moderation, including beer, wine, desserts

BTW...I searched this forum and couldn't find this thread started. If this is a repeat, I apologize.....Feel Free to Move It, Chase!
Thank you, Chase!!!!

I cycle 35 minutes a day at least three mornings during the week and add in another one, if not two, hour long rides on the weekend.

When it comes to fitness and health, you really have to do what feels/works best for you. If you kill yourself dieting and working out, you won't be any happier and it'll be harder to enjoy the results. Personally, running is my outlet to life...I run every day before and after work. I sit at a boring desk job and it makes me feel good to get up and going in the morning/after sitting here all day, usually I run 1-2 miles each. I try to eat as healthy as I can, but I suck at dieting so I do it in moderation. I find that running really tightens up everything (legs, butt, abs)...that's my motivation to continue doing it each day.

Re: Fitness Advice and Inspiration - Need it? Got it? Want it? Come on in here...

I run 6 days a week, anywhere from 3 to 4 miles. I try to do some floor work too but my dog (lab) decides to help so that usually puts an early end to that.
As far a diet, I have been WAY off the wagon lately, but I typically stick to the W.W. program. I'm back on starting today. I guess June and July were filled with too many cookouts. My goal is to lose 10 lbs in 3 weeks (keeping fingers crossed). I also drink as much water as I can tolerate in a day, usually 4 or 5 bottles.

I have to be honest; I was really over weight and out of shape until I was in my mid-thirties. I am in better shape now than I was in high school and feel pretty good too.

Re: Fitness Advice and Inspiration - Need it? Got it? Want it? Come on in here...

I try to watch what I eat but I'm a huge sweet fiend so that doesn't always work... but I eat sweets in moderation.

I don't really have a plan, I walk a lot and I will do some exercises at home. I bought the "Bean" last summer and I love it, it's really easy to use. The thing is I mostly use it once a week to maintain and keep tone.

1 thing I do at least 3 times a week is a simple arm exercise. Use the chair you are sitting in pretend to be sitting but support yourself with your hands in the front of the chair. So you are sitting in the air in front of the chair, your hands are the only thing on the chair. Now dip your body down and use your arms to lift yourself to a sitting position. Once you are comfortable with that kick your legs out straight and do it. It's really simple and it eliminates the "wave." OOo look I found a video!

Re: Fitness Advice and Inspiration - Need it? Got it? Want it? Come on in here...

Has anyone ever torn (partially) their Achilles tendon? I need help. I thought I could work through this but the pain kept me up most of the night. Called my doc today but he can't see me until Monday.

I refuse to stop walking and running. Oddly, when I run, the pain goes away so maybe that's adrenaline...idk?

I'm sure it's just a partial tear.

I bought an ankle wrap (Velcro and neoprene) but I can't run/walk with it as it's too uncomfortable.

Advice? I'm worried they are going to put me in a boot and tell me to stay off of it!

If you think it's torn, the last thing you want to do is run on it.

Unfortunately, a torn tendon never heals back to what it was without surgery, you just learn to live with it once the instant damage is over. I have a torn ACL in my shoulder. It's not fun.

Thanks but I was afraid someone was going to say this ^

Ouch, that sucks Witchy. Are you considering surgery?

My Mom had a torn ACL and she did have the surgery. She was in a lot of pain and didn't have much of a choice though.

I'm not good at staying still.... I know I'm going to run and walk and it feels better when I do. Hopefully, my orthopaedic doc will understand this.
