BC...

I was thinking about walking at a park or the Newark Reservoir with my dog, assuming dogs are allowed at the Reservoir.

If you want to get a routine together for walking and want a partner, I'm in. I'm usually not home from work until around 6pm or so, but I'd be down for a 7/7:30-ish type thing a few times a week!

I'm pretty sure I saw someone with a dog over at the Reservoir last week, Rosie.

I think walking together would be awesome!

Fabulous. We must work out the details. What days of the week were you thinking? I'd be down with a M,W,F or T,Th type of deal. Of course we could work in more or less days as we find what works for us.

I need to check to see what nights I have clients, but for right now, it looks like I could do, say, Monday, Tuesday and Friday. But let me check and see what's on deck - I just picked up two clients and I need to double check our nights.

I wish I started doing this in my 20's.... but I was on the "booze diet" back then.
Damn, that's it. Bing, I'm almost 47 and I feel like I work out harder nowadays and the results are ok but I feel they should be better. I guess my testosterone is lacking. That sucks. I take some amino acid supplements which help but you say PB is good source of protein? By itself or with something?

Maybe it's because I'm still on the booze diet.

Curly, the whole protein thing is debated to no end. I've read for people who workout, you should have one gram of protein per pound of body weight. That is harder to do than you think. This is where a good quality whey protein powder comes in handy. I just mix that in water, or put it in my cereal or oatmeal.
I mentioned peanut butter, because it's thought to boost testosterone levels. (I don't know if it's peanut butter only, or the type of fat in peanuts and other nuts). So when I have oatmeal, it's a tablespoon of peanut butter and a scoop of whey protein.

You just can't go nuts (ha ha) eating the peanut butter. The stuff is so damn good it's hard to resist, but obviously it's calorie dense... so I try to limit to 2-3 tablespoons per day. (it all depends if I wolfed down a pizza that day)

But back to what you mentioned about getting results. I workout like a mo-fo and I can get toned, but nothing crazy big. I think it's just age. and booze. and wolfing down pizza.

Recommendations? How many grams per serving? Also isn't there something called protein efficiency rating? Thanks.

Curly, I'm not familiar with the protein efficiency rating. I use Designer Whey.
I can't really remember how I settled upon it, but being low in sugar/carbs was something I was looking for. Not to keen on fake sugar, but quite a few protein powders and bars contain too much sugar. It's about 20g of protein per scoop. So I might have a full scoop or half depending on how much other protein I had that day. I weigh 175, but I really don't know how I could consume 175g of protein in a day. I shoot for about 100g per day.

Designer Whey vanilla, vanilla praline and chocolate are the ones I've had. I usually stick with vanilla praline. It doesn't taste bad, but I wouldn't say it's the best thing I ever tasted. I view it completely as a source of fuel... in fact I had to change my whole mindset with food and view it as a fuel only. It takes some of the pleasure out of it, but that is what weekends are for. I try to eat right 80% of the time, and eat whatever the hell I want 20% of the time (beer fortunately can fit into the 20% category).

Re: Fitness Advice and Inspiration - Need it? Got it? Want it? Come on in here...

Well, after I started this thread, I got thinking. And getting all thinking often inspires me. And the next thing I knew, my best friend and I are involved in training for a 100-mile century loop in July, 2009 to benefit the American Cancer Society. (Our adventure will be chronicled here: girlsinjerseys).

You guys helped with the inspiration... Thank you.
