Experts: Chocolate Milk Is A Good Sports Drink

Experts: Chocolate Milk Is A Good Sports Drink

(KDKA) Tough workouts now have athletes reaching for a new trendy sports drink that is also a traditional kid favorite.

Some athletes drink water during workouts, while others turn to sports drinks like Gatorade, to not only to re-hydrate, but to replenish electrolytes.

But now some experts say they are beginning to believe in order to fully recover, people need some protein to rebuild muscles that are torn down after a hard workout.

Experts say that could be found in chocolate milk.

Research says the childhood favorite, known for being a good source of calcium, may also have everything you need after a workout.

“You get protein to rebuild muscle. You get carbs to refuel muscle,” says Althea Zanecoskey. “You get lots of liquid to re-hydrate, but you also get the minerals to help you re-hydrate.

Experts say chocolate milk is different from regular milk because it has the extra sugar which is a good way to replace carbohydrates.

But since it adds extra calories, it's a good idea to go for low fat or fat free milk and limit how much you drink.

I know that after I work out or have been doing yard work, etc.... I'll drink water or gatorade. I've never thought to grab a chocolate milk.

Re: Experts: Chocolate Milk Is A Good Sports Drink

Been doing this for over a year now, so I guess I'm ahead of the curve. After lifting weights, your muscles need sugar and they need it quick (as in, Nestle Quik). Once you get into the routine, the entire time I'm working out I cannot keep my mind off of the chocolate milk. It's crazy. Otherwise, I never drink the stuff.

On off-gym nights I usually do 12 oz. curls, multiple times.

Grab a Yoo-Hoo. I will stick with my gatorade and propel lemon water though.
