Do you get or are you planning to get a Flu Shot this year?

I've never had a flu shot, never will (Okay, maybe when I'm in the nursing home they'll make me). It seems like every year I talk to someone who has had a flu shot and gets sicker than a dog. The flu shot is only representative of the ONE strain that they are PREDICTING will be the most prevalent this season. What's the point? (no needle joke intended).

I'm with a lot of other people here. I got the flu shot one year and got sooo sick, I thought I had died.

I just came off of a lovely time with Bronchitis. First time I've ever had it. NEVER AGAIN

Flu shots? Not now. Did once and got sick. Needles don't bother me. I used to watch them stick me and now I'd rather not. I don't know why either. I'm a member (lol) of the blood bank only because blood is expensive and not covered by benefits. Then again, if I ever end up a bloody mess, the cost of blood will be the least of my worries. Maybe the gov will pay for it soon with OUR tax money. They might as well, they've already taken my arm and leg. But anyway, one time (at band camp) at the blood bank the nurse came out with a needle that looked like a skewer. Yup, it was sure as hell bigger than any other time. I was like WTF? Well, she stuck me and now I know what a kabob feels like. I filled the zip lock bag in about 3 minutes (that's what it felt like anyway). She sent me to the canteen where an old lady will tackle you if you try to leave before 15 minutes is up. "STAY PUT AND EAT A FUCKING COOKIE!" Anyway, while sitting there I felt something warm running down my arm, I knew what it was before I looked. You guessed it, that sewer snake they put in my arm left a good size hole. I called the old lady over, pointed to my arm and said, "what do we do now?" She said "oh my god, follow me." We went back to the oil change area and they bandaged me up and reset the clock back to 15 minutes. Damn it! Now I want a hamburger, not a friggen cookie or a cheezit. To this day I still don't know why they used a bigger needle. I'll ask next time.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

The flu kills 36,000 people in the United States every year. It is one of the deadliest disease known to man. Why wouldn't you take every measure possible to prevent from getting it?

I don't think the flu shots are an exact science. They take the strains from last year and they try to predict which strains will pop up this year then they make the flus shots based on this sort of guess work. So...it may help or it may not. Plus, many people have bad reactions to the flu shots.

Then there's the thought of what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

I definitely think if you are older or have a bad immune system then you should strongly consider the shot.

I guess that's why they are not mandatory.
