Can't Keep the Weight Off?

I'm sooooo glad I found this article....it's not my fault!

So, you ate less and exercised more and lost weight. But now the pounds are piling back on. You're hungrier than ever, and you can't seem to resist food. Once again, it's all your fault, right?

Wrong. Blame evolution, and the fact that for the vast majority of human history, famine was a bigger threat than flab. Even your seeming lack of will power is part of a complex biological system that drives humans who have lost weight to regain it, according to new brain-scan research by scientists at Columbia University Medical Center.

Re: Can't Keep the Weight Off?

I said something to that effect in a thread once.. but I can't remember what the thread was. And now it's going to bug me. Dang it. PG'll probably (I hope!) remember. She was in it too.

So what about us freaks who can't gain weight?

Should there be a famine, I'm gonna be the first to go.

Pythoness, I am in the "hard time losing weight" camp, and I think it stink for both those who want to lose and can't or who want to gain and can't. In one camp, you get prejudice because of your weight, in the other people suspect you of eating disorders, etc. Can't win for trying.

In any case, I hope there is no famine, as folks here would miss you. Also, you are a fellow active Bookcrosser, and we have got few enough of those here in DE as it is!!

Re: Can't Keep the Weight Off?

I am, and have been for a while, even steven on my weight. ive been hovering around 185-195 for a good while.

pre-angela i was 135 in high school, and 6' tall, friend thought (literally) i was on crack and would often say like "chase are you on something?"

when i met angela i was like 150 on the dot

after the first kid is when i went up to 185ish

195 (currently) is the most i have ever wieghed, which is about right for my body but im slender arms, legs, wise and have a bit of a belly

Re: Can't Keep the Weight Off?

I weighed a good 175 lbs. through high school..

Most I've weighed was 200 lbs... That was sympathy weight when my wife was pregnant..

Now.. I fluctuate between 185-195... Just not as active as I used to be...

5'10" 177. steady as she goes. I don't fluctuate too much. If I kick my cardio routine up a bit, I could make 170. (but I'm not motivated).

The red lights go off when I approach 180. that's when I cut back.

body fat is 8%

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. yeah right. put a one in front of that number.

Yeah, *racks brain* I remember the topic, *brain cries and begs for mercy* but damn if I remember which thread it was... *releases poor widdle brain*

Methinks I'll have to dive into the depths of TD to find it. *takes two aspirin and dons SCUBA gear* If I'm not back in an hour and a half, send a rescue party... emphasis on party.
