Droid Does!

The highly anticipated motorola droid will be released on VZW service tomorrow. This is the first Android (google's OS) phone to come to big red and it seems to be, well, pretty bad ass....

The reported specs of the Motorola Droid/Tao/Sholes (via phonedog):

* 3.7″ screen with 854×480 (16:9 widescreen) capacitive touchscreen
* 600 MHz ARM Cortex A8 Processor
* Wi-Fi, EV-DO
* 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash and video recording
* QWERTY Slider, 13.7mm thick
* 3.5mm headphone jack
* 16GB onboard storage with microSD expansion slot
* Android 2.0 'Eclair'

The screen has twice the resoltion and is bigger then the iPhone. It also ships with a 16GB SD card installed.

I'm getting it for sure. I'm mad cuz i cant preorder it. The free navigational system has sold me. Plus the nice big screen.

I'm trying to get it for 200 straight up. I don't wanna wait for the rebate. Anyone knows of a place thats gonna sell it for 200 straight. I know the websit is gonna sell it for 200 but i dont wanna wait until monday to get it..

go to the store and get it, it's not like there are going to be lines or they are going to run out. last reports was each store is getting 200 units today/tomorrow

Last i heard is the brick stores are gonna charge 300 then get 100 back in the mail. I'm trying to avoid the rebate and pay 200 straight out.

i dont really use navigation but i just watched a video on the turn by turn, audio, google maps, navigation, it is SWEET, and it is FREE

tom tom and garmin stock actually took a dive the other day when this was announced.

VZW sells a car mount for the phone that hold it in landscape and VIA magnets tells the phone to go to nav mode, and it is the real deal, very impressive.

VZW is dropping another Android phone on friday too called the eris, a htc phone with the sense UI, which is a amazing smartphone experience in itself. and it will be 100 dollars cheaper


apparently VZW is jumping on the android wagon feet first and DROID will be a series name and not just 1 phone. it will be a sub company almost kinda like Scion for Toyota. all android devices will come out under the DROID moniker.

Thank god it has the physical qwerty keyboard. Virtual qwertys on phones like the IPhone, HTC imagio, etc. suck hard. All the touch screen crap is highly overrated.

Unfortunately, I recently spent my one year upgrade, a few months back. I will definitely be getting this thing, as long as I don't have to have a Data plan, like the Blackberry! Unfortunately for Wifey she can not get one until a year after me, as the account is in my name. Maybe we will just splurge and just buy her one, but that is a huge maybe. At least by the time we get one all of the bugs will be worked out, and the price will be cheaper. We have had our eye on this for a little bit now.

Well that really blows, because I want one, but I AM NOT paying 30 bucks a month again, for a stupid Data Plan! Why force people to pay for crap they don't want, when all some people want is just the phone. Lost some sales there that is for sure!

there is no reason to have a smart phone and only use it as a phone, i doubt they will lose sales, most people getting these are trading for their existing smart phones with data plans

im probably going to get the eris tomorrow.

for any BB users thinking of switching, there is a website called cashforberrys that gives nice cash for BB's. they are legit and will give you $195 for a good condition used storm 1

I can tell you 5 people right now off the top of my head, that will not be buying it, for the reason of having to get a data plan with it. So there are loss of sales. I know 5 people are not much, and that will not hurt them that much, but I am sure there are more in this country, other than the people that I know. I probably could go higher.

Also, there is a reason to have a smart phone to use just as a phone, it is cool, new, and I like it. Who is anyone in this world to tell me that there is no reason for me to have anything, if I am not going to use the full capabilities. I know at least 10 people that have a Blackberry, but do not have Internet on it. So what because, I am not going to use the internet than I should not have said phone. I think not! I had a BlackBerry, and I had the damn Data plan, as Verizon forced me too. It was cool for the first month or so, but after that the internet never got used, unless we were out and wanted to call somewhere, and had to look up a phone number, then it came in handy. Also, if Wifey wanted to go out real quick on a Friday night, I would use it to send messages to my Live peeps, to let them know I would be on in a little bit, via xbox.com But, for those handful of times was it worth the 30 bucks a month, uh NO! That is why we ditched it. That is also why we will not be getting the Droid either, as I will not be forced to pay 30 bucks a month, by a cell phone provider. It should be my choice, not theirs, plain and simple!

Not sure if its just a ploy but just looked at my account (Just phone or data plan) the Droid comes up as compatible with current plan. Maybe just for new customers they need the data plan ??
