| | | Finishing up the last of the kid's shopping, and I'm trying to squeeze a digital video recorder in for my 9 year old.
Only have a $100 or less to work with. Found a few things online, but the reviews range from 5 stars to crap on most of them, and I'm not tech savvy enough to tell who knows what the hell they're talking about.
I'm just looking for something my kid can make videos with/ record her own plays with her friends and such. Decent audio and video, and easy to link up to my laptop to burn DVD's for her. Doesn't have to be professional quality. Being able to take a drop or two might not hurt, either.
Am I looking at nothing but crap in that price range? Anybody purchase anything that fits my criteria?

| | No... but I am looking for the same thing. My boyfriend's son wants to post videos on youtube... I saw something at Toys R Us that didn't look 1/2 bad, I probably should have picked it up
Ohhhh welll.... such is life....

| | | forgot to mention, but you'll notice, they are super easy to use and seem fairly durable, probably perfect for a kid camcorder although i hear they take very very good quality video too | | |

| | If you listen to Kim Kommando, she tends to shy away from the cameras geared towards kids if only because they cost as much as the regular cameras and don't have as many features as the regular cameras.
I would suggest you get at least a 6 megapexil camera with video ability.
Have a look at this one. Amazon.com: Olympus FE-46 12MP Digital Camera (Blue) + Crayola Kit + 4GB Deluxe Accessory Kit: Camera & Photo FE-46

| | Well. The Flip is nice and can do Video but it can't take still pictures. The camera can do both.... And the kit offers free prints for 6 months I think.
I say buy the Camera for the free prints and then buy the flip later off of ebay at a discount for their birthday
(I have a flip HD and I can say for sure that they don't like the cold.) | | The Following User Says Thank You to paulusa302 For This Useful Post:

| | We have the Flip and the kids love it. My 9 year old uses it all the time. It doesn't take still pics but you can get screen shots from your video. Flip has a good program for it but I also use iMovie and Aperture to capture still images and edit videos.
The Flips come in diff GB's... with varying prices. They are HD too. Flip Video Camcorder - Digital Camcorder | Flip Video
I notice some Flip copy cameras out there too. That may be a less expensive route.

| | | I got mine from woot.com.
It was $69.00 (refurb: luckily no probs with it at all) for the 120 minute Ultra (orange)...this was right before they launched the HD versions otherwise I would've waited for one of those.
May fav part is the built in memory and the built in USB so you just plug it in to any laptop. Great when traveling .... at home it plugs right into my macbook but in London it plugs right into my brothers PC. That's versatility.
Best Buy had a nice selection of kid friendly camcorders. Even the new iPod nano looks youtube friendly. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
