Real Mexican food is a whole other experience. I know how to make some dishes (3 years in Guadalajara) but you can't get a decent corn tortilla anywhere here. | the best corn tortillas (and tamales) I've found are at this authentic Mexican place in Avondale, PA - it's right on Rt. 41 and you can't miss it - it's very brightly painted!! and in the summer, they have a stand set up outside the restaurant where they serve their "special lunches"... usually chef's choice - but it's always yummy!!!
(I'm writing this as I'm eating Taco Bell from the one on Rt 202 - the 'chef' must be new there, because he/she totally re-created what was supposed to be a Beef Meximelt!! extra ingredients - bonus!!!)

I always bought my tortillas hot off the comal at the local tortilla maker in Guadalajara, in half (or sometimes one) kilo packs. Once you get used to that, commercial tortillas from the chilled section at the local *insert name of market here* don't feel the same on the palate.

Would you believe that the best mexican i've ever had comes out the side window of an old school bus?
It's a restaurant called El Taconazo, in Tampa, and they literally started out selling tacos out of this old rickety bus. They developed a following, got enough money to buy a restaurant and converted the bus so that it's now the "kitchen" of the restaurant. You can either eat in or order outside. The food is SO good! In several local publications it is consistently voted the best Mexican food in the area.

The augmentative can be tacon; tacon also means heel of the shoe; -azo is a suffix meaning to strike with...taconazo specifically means a heel strike, usually as a dance move. (Flamenco is composed of almost nothing but taconazos.)
