Re: Olive Garden

The Olive Garden has come a long way. First time I ate at an Olive Garden was over 10 years ago and I didn't care for it very much. It was the McDonalds of Italian Food. I recently dined at the OG in Daytona right near the track and the food was outstanding. Each of us had a different entree and each one was delicious. I was going to try the new one in Christiana near the Home Depot but it's always so busy.

Ps

RS your boyfriend is very cute!

Re: Olive Garden

OG = Italian Fern Bar...with a small bar at that! That dish, though, ROCKS! I used to live on the A-Y-C-E Soup, Salad, and Stix....the soup that Kid mentioned is a 3-bowl event!

Re: Olive Garden

Sorry to be a hater, but my Italian relatives threatened to kill me if I ever ate at the OG. (seriously) Maybe I could just have beer there.

The beer's good. Not a bad place but I can handle only so much pasta and bread.

Re: Olive Garden

Sorry, but the OG is the LAST place I would go to if I was in the mood for Italian food.

I guess the question comes down to; 1. Do you want good food? 2. Do you want good Italian food.

While I don't doubt that those who gave it good markings enjoyed their meal, I don't feel that it can hold a candle to authentic Italian restaurants.

Even to just compare it in the field of "Italian" chains, I don't feel that OG makes the grade. Carrabba's Italian Grill is MUCH better.

Thumbs down The Olive Garden in Christiana

Let me be the first to say that The Olive Garden's food.....YUMMY!!!!!.....their drinks....YUMMY!!!!!.....their service....AWFUL!!!!!!

Let me explain: at my place of business, we have tried twice to go there for a special monthly lunch we have. For this lunch we are only given an hour and a half. In both cases, we tried to make reservations and we're told in no certain terms "no."

The first time we went, the person heading it up had made special arrangements with the manager that they would take a reservation with us, but when we got there, no one knew anything about it and we're not apologetic AT ALL!!!

The second time we went, I was the person heading it up and at first I spoke with a very snotty receptionist that as soon as I mentioned the word "reservation", she interupted me and snottingly said "we don't take reservations." I guess she thought she worked at the restaurant on Ratatouille? Anyway...when I spoke with the manager, he assured me that if I had someone there an hour before we wanted to be seated, we could get a seat for our fifteen people. The day of our lunch, my friend arrived an hour before our lunch and was told that that was not gonna happen of course very rudely.

I realize that "no reservations" is a very common practice for chain restaurants, but I do not understand why, especially for very large parties, especially for very high profile companies, because I can assure you that everyone that I work with will no longer eat at The Olive Garden in Christiana despite how good their food and drinks are. I also find it very disturbing that people do not realize that restaurants are one of the first businesses to go belly up and while The Olive Garden is doing very well right now, does management really want snotty people as hostesses?

Re: The Olive Garden in Christiana

Two points: 1) I agree completely. I can understand a policy of no reservations for smaller groups but I do think that groups of a certain size (say 10 or more) should be able to make a reservation if for no other reason than tables, and groups of tables, that seat that many don't open often making the wait twice what it would be for a smaller party.
2) No one should be snotty, especially in a work situation. Even more so in a service position. Furthermore, I'm sorry, but lets face it, they're a host/hostess in a freakin' chain restaurant. It ain't brain surgery and really requires no special training or talent now, does it? So what puts them in the superior position besides the fact that they can look at the little table map and we can't? Now if I had a tumor that needed to be removed and only one doctor could do it, okay, he can be as snotty as he wants and I'll suck it up, but a zit-faced kid who says, "Welcome to Olive Garden"- I don't think so.
(I'm also pretty good at getting names and writing letters to the management that tend to get me return phone calls.)
