Ocean Point Grill

Ocean Point Grill on Long Neck Road across side street from Grottos is very popular with locals. They have a full menu for breakfast ,lunch and dinner. It kind of reminds me of good old fashion diner food and is very popular with the local senior citizens. Prices are reasonable and they have daily dinner specials . Service is quick and friendly.
They have recently opened a Crab House in an adjacent store which I have not had a chance to try yet.

Sorry, Long Neck Road isn't sounding familiar; which Grottos?

Sorry Wendy...I guess that's like somebody up state saying Harvey Rd. Long Neck Rd runs off of rt 24 betwen Millsboro and Rehoboth. Long Neck is a peninsula which runs between Indian River Bay and Rehoboth Bay.

Re: Ocean Point Grill

longnecker......I have to tell you about Ocean Point Grill. I have two friends that work there and they say they NEVER eat there while at work. Apparently the kitchen is gross and the kitchen staff's practices are not very sanitary.

My daughter and I had a horrible experience there one morning. We sat down and ordered and our food came very quickly. Looked good. We went to open up our napkins to place in our laps and my daughter started gagging. I said what's wrong and she said um....there is something pretty disgusting in my napkin. I said what do you mean. She said someone blew their nose in my napkin and then wrapped the silverware in it. (Um....not just clear snot either.......was a horrible huge bloody luggy !)

We told the owners wife and she offered to pay for our breakfast and we both were so grossed out by it that we decided to leave right then and there. Our stomachs churned for about two hours. It's all we could think about for the next couple of hours.

I have NEVER experienced something like that in a restaurant before. So Ocean Point Grill is off our list. Not to mention I know where the owner lives and they keep their dogs tied up in the garage all day !

Re: Ocean Point Grill

Miles thanks for your post . Once or twice I did wonder who was cooking but that's kinda normal for a rapid turnover business like that. I had never seen anything unclean and the waitstaff is great. My son did notice that the required hand washing sign was not in the bathroom. Oh well back to the Back Bay cafe.

Am i to assume the Crab Barn is gone? I ask because a number of years ago when it opened ( You may already know the story ) they had a deal that basically kept others in surrounding lots ( Grotto's etc ) from selling crabs. They even did the same with their first building which became Three Peers and then Pirates Cove and lastly Whiskers who i understand recently sold. None of them could sell crabs either.

From what i have heard Longneck has changed ALOT sence i moved away a little over 6yrs ago. My brother still lives in the area and mother just recently moved out here from Rehoboth. Not the peacefull setting it once was back when i first moved there which was when Palmers was the best next thing to a grocery store and Three Peers sat across from there. Other then those places you had the Crab Barn and the other place around from Palmers which i forget it's name? No School, No Grotto's and no BS which i understand now plagues the area thanks to the low income crap housing they built. So i heard anyways. Longneck was the next best thing after rt1 development exploded in the 80s and early 90s.

Re: Ocean Point Grill

Seems sort of commercialized down there, OPG is actually very nice, entrees are sized right, and waitstaff is helpful. The Crab Barn was purchased By the American Veterans group, its a pub/social club now. Beers are real cheap. I usually walk there from my place.

WOW! They have gained alot from the smoking ban.

Do they still have the place out on 24? Oh and i thought they got the old After 6 lounge? Which btw was the place i couldnt remember early this morning.

In either case all of the originals ( Places to go have a drink ) on Longneck are now gone. Not counting Grotto's but it wasnt there when i moved into the area and thus not original. Crab Barn i believe was the second place on Longneck to go eat and have a few drinks. The first was the After 6 Lounge which started in the 70s i do believe.

I have eaten at the Ocean Point Grille many times (more than 40 times over past 2 1/2 years) and have never had an experience like the one quoted above. The place is always clean, including the bathrooms. The service is more than adequate, and the food is great for the price. It's more like a diner than a gourmet restaurant and the prices reflect that.

As far as the dogs go, I certainly don't advocate the mistreatment of animals. I have 2 dogs myself, never chained up. I am not quite sure, though, how anyone would know that someone else's dogs were chained up inside a house all day, unless I was nosing in their garage windows to find out.
