News York Fried Chicken *New Eatery* RT13 & Memorial Drive

New Your Fried Chicken recently opened at the corner of DuPont hgwy & Memorial Drive. The location was that of a closed 7/11 that has been remodeled and split into 2 shops. One shop opened as New York Fried Chicken and the other shop has a for lease sign in the front.

I stopped in there earlier this week and was surprised by their extensive menu that offers way more than fried chicken. I also noticed that for a grand opening on a busy street that has a bus-stop mini-house on one corner and a Super Wawa across the street and it being lunch time was pretty empty. I wonder why?

You can enter the takeout restaurant from the side or the front doors. The waiting area and prep area were as clean as you could get. Behind the counter, the staff is not friendly but they are not moody either. They just want you to place your order.

Since the name "Chicken" was in their sign, I decided to get a 3 pcs dinner box. It came with a wing, a drumstick and a Thigh. You get a roll, mashed potatoes and cole slaw. All for $5.49

Nothing about this meal was impressive. The chicken was plain and lacked flavor. The sides were ok, and they only put a teaspoon of gravy over my mashed potatoes (Instant mashed potatoes i'm sure). The cole slaw was ok, but isn't most all cole slaw ok?

If you want decent chicken, skip this place and go to Popeyes, KFC or even Shoprite's Deli, that is just up the road headed towards Dover.

Re: News York Fried Chicken *New Eatery* RT13 & Memorial Drive

I pass that place every day going to work and coming home.

It's always pretty busy after work and on the weekends. A lot of people seem to like it (or else there wouldn't be cars in the lot and people standing inside, right?).

I've never been there, only because I'm not intereted in going inside when it's so busy (I hate crowds).

Perhaps someday I'll try it. Maybe.

I live near there and often see their lot to be empty or 2 or 3 cars. Today during lunch there was no cars there when I passed it.

Their prices are very reasonable and I don't see why anyone on a lunch run would avoid it with the limited selection of take-out, one stop shopping restaurants with reasonable prices in the area.

Hmmm... sounds like this place has its busy and dead times. I almost always see it busy. Others see it empty....

I guess it depends on the time of day/night, and which day it is.

Is this a sit-down and eat place, or just take out? I've only been able to see one or two tables thru the window...

Re: News York Fried Chicken *New Eatery* RT13 & Memorial Drive

I didn't notice any seating in there when I went, but I was only focusing on the menu and how things looked in there.

I would not sit in there and eat.... I can imagine being bothered by someone asking for spare change or something. I have gone to the Wawa across the street from them and am tired of people begging strangers to help them put gas in their car.

Re: News York Fried Chicken *New Eatery* RT13 & Memorial Drive

That's interesting. I've never been asked for change at that Wawa, even with all the people who seem to just be "hanging out" at the front of the building, or around the side. And I go there often to fuel up, or grab milk or snacks or something... (maybe it's because of the "deterrent" on my hip? LOL.)

Re: News York Fried Chicken *New Eatery* RT13 & Memorial Drive

That could be.... I am told I have an approachable demeanor. When I go to that Wawa, the beggers are begging, folks are trying to sell cologne out of their car and others are trying to sell me music CD's.......

I did buy one guy $2 worth of gas to get him home and helped him start his car.

Cologne and CD's out of cars!!? I've never seen that there, either.

I have seen bootleg DVD's being sold on the sidewalk and out of trunks over on Miller Road near the Dollar Tree. But never the Wawa.

Quite interesting.....

Re: News York Fried Chicken *New Eatery* RT13 & Memorial Drive

There used to be one of those New York Fried Chicken places next to Capriotti's on Limestone Rd. & Kirkwood Hwy. Lousy chicken, and the place was kind of dingy & dirty. On the other hand, that might be the exact New York experience they're recreating, along w/ surly employees. It didn't last long @ that location.
