Americans are too clean in my opinion.... more germs, better immunity. We need to stop taking all those unnecessary antibiotics for all those trivial colds. Stop with the antibiotics in our foods, too. Enough with the anti-bacterial soaps, wipes, etc.

We'd never survive a germ war..... ... we've turned into wimps.

I say the same thing all the time.

My wife and I have arguments every time the kids get a sniffle. She wants to run them to the doctors to get antibiotics and I want her to let it run it's course.

I also refuse to buy antibacterical soaps too. I use lysol to wipe the kitchen counters and stove and all but that is about it.

Re: Lemon Wedges-Yuck!

I put 2 or 3 lemon wedges in my iced tea every time I eat out. I leave the old wedge in the glass and keep adding new ones when I get a refill.

I'm certain I've built up a tolerance by now.

Kissing someone probably exchanges a lot of bacteria, too...not all of it good. I won't even mention other practices that involve the exchange of bodily fluids.

As long as I'm not in danger of e.coli, salmonella, mad cow or whatnot, I don't really care. I'm only interested in the smell and the taste.....of lemons, that is.

Re: Lemon Wedges-Yuck!

I'm not a big fan of all those antibacterial soaps either, but I have noticed that washing my fruits and veggies with a mild food disinfectant makes them last longer in the fridge.

For real. You hear the term "fecal bacteria" and people start freaking out.. but you know what.. fecal bacteria is EVERYWHERE.. and it's GOOD FOR US. If we didn't ingest it from the millions of little places we ingest it from (including our toothbrushes) we'd actually be sick MORE OFTEN.

We worry about what the health inspectors are finding in eateries, but the same bacteria is present in our own kitchens. It's really not THAT big a deal, unless the bacteria is E. coli.

The other one that makes people freak is "Staph" bacteria.

Does anyone have any idea how many strains of staph bacteria there are? I don't know the exact number, but it's a lot. Only a couple make you sick. There are staph bacteria living on all of our bodies RIGHT NOW. There are staph bacteria that have evolved just to live on our bodies. It doesn't make you sick. It doesn't even make your body react. It's fine.

Don't be germ phobic! It's bad for your health.
