Iron Skillet in Elkton MD Exit 109A

Sunday, I went to the Iron Skillet's buffet for lunch/dinner. I took along my camera but did not want to take any pictures to help them hide their shame...

When we entered, there was no sign telling us to seat ourself or wait to be seated so we seated ourself at an open table still with plates and tip on the table. So many dirty tables..... You could not help but notice that clearing the tables was a weakness for them.

We both went for the very limited buffet and Iced Tea for a total of $25 something for both of us. Now remember that the Iron Skillet is a restaurant in a truck-stop, similar to the Flying J. But the flying J has a better buffet, depending on which one you visit.

The plates are Iron and shaped like a skillet with a handle on it.

The Buffet was of 3 short tables

Table 1 - meats & sides
Table 2 - Breads, Soups and crackers
Table 3 - Salad and fruits

Surprisingly their food was full of flavor and enjoyable. I find most food at Old Country Buffet to be rather bland so the Iron Skillet beats them on Flavor but not on selection and freshness.

Their soups were ok. One was good and the other was Blah... The one I liked was called Pepper Pot.

Desert was fruit and Jello.

We tipped $3

It was ok, but I would not go there again for the buffet.

Across the street is the Cracker Barrel Restaurant. I like their food and may give them a try. I hear that location is better than the one in NJ.

Thanks Rusty. I enjoy writing about places I have eaten because they are local spots and I think it is something of interest to most members. And it is a good way for me to re-teach myself on my writing and spelling skills.

But you know, I wish I had taken some pics. I think I will start using my cell phone to take some pics on the sly next time.

I will give it a try when I go to Old Country Buffet for lunch today. Now don't get the wrong idea; although I go to Buffets, I still have a 30" waist! LOL

Funny i went there years ago after a night of drinking with friends, usually you dont care when you are drunk , but the food was bad and it was very dirty, not to mention i would not suggest going there late at night SCARY

I agree that it is not a place to take the Queen of England but Whoopi Goldburg would feel at home.
