Thumbs up I recommend the Exchange on Market

My girlfriend and I ate at the new restaurant that opened up in downtown Wilmington call "The Exchange". It's on Market street between 9th and 10th street. It's not a cheap eats place but the food, atmosphere and staff made it a great experience.

I had the steak ($22 but I think it was the most expensive item on the menu). She had the catfish ($16). The steak was ok nothing to write home about but good none the less. She said the catfish was excellent and enjoyed her meal a lot.

They have a special every night of the week (not open monday nights but open other nights till 1am). Last night was 1/2 price bottle of wine so we saved $18 on our drinks too.

We decided to have dessert and got the very reasonably priced($6 or $7) French Toast (I forget what else) and I have to say I don't think I've ever eaten anything that good in my life.

bon appetite!

Hokie,

I walk by there (when I decide to leave my building for lunch) and I was thinking about stopping there. So it's pretty good, huh? I'll have to check it out. I've been waiting on reviews of that place, but I haven't heard anything. Thanks for the heads up!

I am not from the Wilmington area, but if you are ever in Dover, try Southerns Finest Barbeque....it's great. Rt 13 across from Rodney Village Shopping Center, on the Northbound side....Their pulled chicken is the best!!!

Re: I recommend the Exchange on Market

I was at the Exchange on Fri nite....maybe we had an off night or something because the service was lacking. My "Dark And Stormy" was neither...The 1/2 price margarita was mostly ice, and a VERY dirty martini wasn't dirty at all...we do family style when we go out so we worked the menu pretty good...on starters, the popcorn shrimp was fishy...the lettuce wraps weren't wrapable...the chicken skewer was good...and while there was no trace of poblano peppers in the nachos, they were darn tasty.

On the main's...the ribs fell off the bone - I thought the best of what we ordered; the two beef dishes were prepared as asked, but the bernaise sauce for the filet was weak-I've mixed better myself from an envelope off the shelf at ACME and the rib-eye had a little too much gristle (marbling is good, gristle is bad)...the catfish was dry and needed the psuedo wing sauce.

And for dessert...the banana split was common...DQ does a better job. The carrot cake was chock full of nuts, but a little dry. The thick chocolate no-bake cake was the best of what we tried...

Not a whole lot of inventiveness by the chef which was disappointing. The wine list was interesting, I'm into the South American vineyards - reasonable too. After being disappointed by our initial drinks, perhaps we should have explored the wine list more. I believe the quote of the night from one of my companions was, "you can't fix stupid".

For the money, you're better off at Costas, Moro, Culinaria, Dome, or Harry's.

*blink* My favorite all time drink, if you are referring to Goslings black seal rum and Barretts stone ground ginger beer... thought I was the only freak in Delaware who knew this Bermuda drink

Re: I recommend the Exchange on Market

Yes, that is the one...my recollection of it was that it was supposed to be layered. This was shaken...and light on the rum.
