The Doghouse vs Deerhead Hot Dogs

Today I got a little hungry and did not feel like cooking and I considered going to Deerhead Hot Dogs or The Doghouse. I did a search online to read reviews on what people had to say about either. Deerhead seem to get better reviews but the Doghouse is closer to my house. So after reading their review Dog House Sandwich Shop - New Castle, DE
I was all set for my first experience there.... But the review I read at Holly Eats Deerhead Hot Dogs at HollyEats.com did make me want to go to Deerhead but off I went to the Dog House.

When I entered the parking area of the Dog House I noticed the lights were out at Rascals Seafood and it was only around 8pm. Is business that bad for them?

I looked over their menu and decided on a chili dog. I was asked what did I want on it? I told them that I had no idea what toppings they offered and they don't list any toppings. I decided on fried onions and mustard and waited 10 to 15 minutes for my order. One chili dog is $3. When I got home I found that that they forgot to put chili on my hot dog

I should have fired up toaster oven and broiled a ballpark frank and wrapped it in a slice of bread with ketchup, relish and onions.

I still want to try Deerhead Hot Dogs.

Re: The Doghouse vs Deerhead Hot Dogs

I have a buddy that will drive from Brookhaven jsut to go to the Dog House. He raves about them all the time. You could have just went at a bad time. Even though I think in Restaurants there should be no bad time for service! You should be at your best all the time! Especially when it is something as simple as a Hot Dog!

Re: The Doghouse vs Deerhead Hot Dogs

If it was a bad time for them than I don't know what a good time would be. They were not busy at all. They only had a few customers there. Maybe it is just that I cook too well for myself.... If you have a toaster oven you should put it on broil and from time to time brush your hotdog or Kilbasa or sausage BBQ sauce and when it is done just make a sandwich and you will be one happy camper.

I totally agree!!! No time should be a bad time for a Restaurant! Especially in times like this!

I was so disappointed when I got home and found that they forgot to put the chili sauce on it. I never had a chilidog before and my mouth was all ready to try it.... but no. I get a plain dog with mustard and fried onions. I would make one at home before I went back again.

Maybe one day I will try a cheese steak.

Re: The Doghouse vs Deerhead Hot Dogs

It's a fucking hot dog. It's anus, snout, and other assorted "parts", liquified-solidified-and then squeezed into a tube. It's scrapple without the spices. You get the same freakin' thing at 7-11, except the roll is bigger.

If you went to the Dog House, with their OPEN grill, and weren't paying attention to what they put on your dog, it's your own fault and you probably shouldn't be out of the house without an escort.

Deerhead is the equivalent of your store-bought ballpark franks...but on a smaller roll. The difference is their sauce (you need to decide if the sauce is worth the price)...for $6.75 (a rip off in the cheap eats arena) you get a single dog (everything is sauce, onions, and mustard) plus fries and a drink. Their fries are OK, and you got robbed on the drink. At the Dog House, you at least get a foot-long.
